Database Support Specialist

 

Direct Tech, Inc. the leading developer of software that improves merchandising and inventory management for organizations that market through e-commerce, catalog, and retail sales channels, is looking for individuals to assist in support and development of their enterprise forecasting application.  Candidates will be able to communicate well with clients in person and in writing.  The ideal candidate will be a quick-learner, self-motivated and able to manage multiple tasks at once.  Experience is required in Oracle databases, writing and tuning queries, as well as writing/fixing PL/SQL code.  Ability to perform administrator-level tasks in Windows and Unix/Linux is required.

 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES  Support of client databases by connecting to remote systems and troubleshooting issues.  Client Support/Training – working with customers to answer questions about the product and how it operates. New Product Installs – installation of our database product on client hardware.  Setup and configuration of Oracle databases. Internal Support – Code new processes based on specifications.  Meet with management to determine direction of enhancements. Administration – update project work plans, status reports and time sheets. Documentation – develop and maintain documentation for programs, process flows, specifications, and requirements. Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

 

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE  Demonstrate strong problem solving skills and be able to perform multiple tasks.    Writing and tuning SQL queries and PL/SQL code within Oracle Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills; work well within a team environment. Possess and demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills; maintain a professional and positive customer service orientation. Proficiency at an intermediate level in computer skills with MS Office Products to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Knowledge of forecasting and Master Scheduling concepts a plus

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s Degree is required (prefer computer science or related field) 8 years of professional experience in programming/support. 4 years writing and tuning SQL queries. 4 years writing and debugging PL/SQL code. Familiarity with Oracle Database Administration, Perl, Unix command line interface, VI Editor, Windows Server management. Knowledge of catalog/retail forecasting and purchasing is desired.
