General Position Summary:

 

As a business systems analyst, your primary function will be to provide senior level analysis as well as participate in the planning, designing and implementation of an Enterprise Data Warehouse and various Business Intelligence solutions for Schnitzer Steel Industries.  This role will also be responsible for managing expectations of four distinct business areas in the use of a Data Warehouse and the appropriate Business Intelligence tools.

 

Job Scope:

 

The Business Systems Analyst will be accountable to the Data Warehouse and other IT department managers to support timely delivery of all projects and supported solutions.  The Business Systems Analyst role is a business engagement role, and is not expected to directly deliver technical solutions.

 

You will act as the primary focal point between key business partners and Data Warehouse & Business Intelligence team.  You must be able to communicate clearly in both verbal and written forms of communication, as well as listen critically to your business partner requests to ensure that the Data Warehouse team is delivering the right solution to satisfy their requirements.

 

You must be able to effectively manage incoming maintenance & enhancement requests from 4 distinct business areas within Schnitzer steel and clearly document those requirements.  The Business Systems Analyst would then be responsible for the generation of the function designs and collaborate with the technical development staff to architect a solution that will meet the requirements of your business partners.  You may also be required to assess the operational and technical impact of system and process changes to current Data Warehouse and Business intelligence solutions.

 

You will participate with the Data Warehouse & Business Intelligence team in performing activities related to data profiling and data quality checks as well as coordinate solution acceptance testing with identified business partners.

 

You will also be responsible for the management of small to medium sized project efforts on a regular basis, and occasionally manage large scale strategic projects.  While in the role of a project manager, you would be required to collaborate with other project and department managers to effectively plan for and secure the resources you need to be successful.  In this role you will also be requested to understand and comply with SSI’s Software Development Life Cycle methodologies and practices.

 

You would be expected to complete clear documentation for delivered solutions and designs inclusive of user documentation, support processes and metadata management.  You may be expected to train and/or assist in training users on new systems and new system processes.  Travel (5-10%) may be required during various phases of a project and will be determined during the scoping of the deliverables.

 

 

Primary Qualifications:

 

· Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related field.

· At least 5 years experience in a Business Systems Analyst role.

· At least 3 years prior experience as a Business Systems Analyst in a Data Warehouse or Business Intelligence field.

· Experience with Business Intelligence and Reporting tools.

· Experience managing small to medium scale Data Warehouse or Business Intelligence projects.

· Strong analysis skills especially as it relates to business reporting and data quality

· Must be self-directed and able to work with individuals at all levels, including executive management.

· Strong communication and documentation skills.

· Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of tools.

· Strong understanding of project related IT internal control and SDLC processes.

· This job requires the ability to multi-task, anticipate problems and make decisions based on sound judgment.

· Ability to work effectively with users at remote locations. 

 

Secondary Qualifications

 

· Experience managing large scale DW & BI projects.

· Experience in the deployment & leveraging of an Enterprise Data Warehouse Solution.

· Prior experience in the metals recycling, steel manufacturing or auto parts business areas.

· Preferred experience with Business Objects Enterprise tools.

· Preferred experience with Business Objects Enterprise Release XIR2.

· Basic Oracle SQL Query writing skills preferred to be used for data profiling and unit testing activities.
