Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse Developer
The Colorado Community College System is the state’s largest system of higher education, comprising 13 state community colleges, career/technical programs in more than 150 school districts, and program oversight for seven other post secondary institutions. Each college offers a blend of core courses for the university-bound as well as career programs that meet local employers’ needs. Our high school programs are designed to increase the number of qualified entry-level and skilled workers for the Colorado economy. Altogether, we serve over 117,000 for-credit students per year. CCCOnline also serves secondary and continuing-ed constituents, increasing the total number of students served. Job Summary:
This position reports to the Manager, Business Intelligence. The position will rapidly design, deploy, populate and manage enterprise data warehouses and data marts -- skills critical to the growing use of data warehousing. The position works independently and also functions as an effective team member in a variety of projects related to the Data Warehouse creation and maintenance. This position reports to the Manager, Business Intelligence. Occasionally the position may take on the role of support lead or analyst and focus on responding to customer issues.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conceptualizing and developing new reports
Maintain and update existing reports as needed
Analyze and assess existing business systems and procedures.
Design, Implement and Maintain ETL processes
Perform complex data analysis
Assist in the definition, development, and documentation of an application’s business requirements, objectives, deliverables, and specifications on a project-by-project basis in collaboration with internal users and departments.
Assist in defining application development project plans, including scoping, scheduling, and implementation.
Consistently write, translate, and code software programs and applications according to business requirements.
Provide verbal and written project status.
Develop and maintain user manuals and guidelines.
Train end users to operate new or modified programs.
Recommend and perform software improvements and upgrades.
Minimal on call availability for system support
Works directly with the Developers, Data Base Administrators, and Project Management Team in a collaborative, cooperative, and customer-centric environment.
Secondary Responsibilities:
The position will work independently and as a member of various teams of technology members and end users. Must be able to work effectively with a diverse population.
Attendance at required meetings and in-services. Occasional travel may be required. Daily schedules may fluctuate to accommodate organizational needs, deadlines and delivery of services.
Creation/Maintenance of documentation regarding data warehouse and associated interfaces as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Applicant Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in the field of Computer Science, Information Systems, or Software Engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Relevant education / experience in the appropriate technical and management areas may be considered as a substitute for formal education.
Experience:
Extensive knowledge and practical application of Oracle PL/SQL
Experience with a Report Writing tool (Cognos, Crystal, Business Objects, etc.)
Experience using an ETL tool (Informatica, Oracle Warehouse Builder)
Minimum of three (3) years of overall applications programming experience
Proficiency in SQL Including:
o Writing PL/SQL Stored Procedure
o Writing Queries for data analysis
Hands-on experience developing test cases and test plans.
Skills and Abilities:
A deep understanding of Business Intelligence concepts and technologies
Ability to identify user needs and provide technical solutions.
Ability to instruct others, both individually and in a group setting.
Ability to interact well with a diverse campus population.
Good listening skills and excellent oral and written communication skills in technical and non-technical settings. Excellent presentation skills.
Excellent customer service skills, for both internal and external customers. Ability to work directly with customers and vendors to understand and resolve functional or technical issues or concerns.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to perform the following:
o Work effectively on concurrent, multiple tasks and projects.
o Work independently to coordinate, organize and track tasks effectively and meet project deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in a related field
Experience supporting 24 x 7 environments
Experience with SunGard Banner, specifically ODS/EDW
Higher education experience
Experience analyzing Financial, HR or Higher Education data
Additional Working Conditions:
Part of this job is performed using a computer.
This position has frequent interactions with internal and external customers and vendors.
This position frequently attends and may lead meetings with a variety of attendees.
Some travel to various campuses and conferences is required.
