The Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County, Indiana



 

 In 1970, nurses from Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso, Indiana, voiced their concerns about patients who were discharged but still needed medical care. In answer to their plea, the Visiting Nurse Association opened in September, 1970 to become the first home health care agency in Porter County, offering nursing and physical therapy.

 

Over the years, the VNA has responded to the changing needs of the community by adding services including speech and occupational therapy, home health aide services, nutritional counseling, medical social services, Meals on Wheels, homemaker companion care and hospice.

 

Today, the Visiting Nurse Association is the leader in home health care for Porter County and surrounding areas in Northwest Indiana. It is a not-for-profit home health agency, certified as a Medicare and Medicaid provider, licensed by the State of Indiana and governed by a board of volunteers from the community. The VNA is a United Way Member Agency and is accredited by the Community Healthcare Accreditation Program. 

 

Cerner Beyond Now is the medical documentation program that we have been using since 2003.  Currently we have approximately 70 laptop users and approximately 75 other users.  Some of the other current applications used internally include Microsoft Office, Blackbaud, ACT, Poster Artist, Photo Shop, Adobe Products, Paradox, Paylocity, Viterion, IPView Pro, Door King, and MAS 90.

Seeking a full-time Applications Analyst

 

The VNA of Porter County is seeking a full-time Applications Analyst.  The Applications Analyst will work under the direction of the Executive Director to develop, implement, support and train users on applications used to support the organization.  Responsibilities will focus on support of and enhancements to the medical documentation application (Cerner Beyond Now).

 

The Applications Analyst responsibilities include:

·         development of enhancements to applications, including creation of new forms, additions of new functionality and modifications to existing functionality

·         developing and retaining relationships with clinical staff

·         working with end users and management to ensure that the current applications and any new features meet the needs of all parties

·         developing system design specifications taking into consideration the provision of quality patient care, user needs, and potential for cost savings through the reduction of work steps

·         testing and implementing application upgrades and new application modules

·         utilizing report writing tools in the creation of custom reports per defined specifications

·         supporting applications and resolving end user issues

·         coordinating with the IT Director to ensure the continued stability of applications

·         training end users on applications

·         documenting procedures and information relating to applications

 

Qualifications and Skills

·         Bachelor of Science in information systems or related field preferred. 

·         Minimum 5+ years of experience as Applications Analyst or similar position. 

·         Experience with system tailoring utilities and creation of user forms.

·         Demonstrated experience in training end-users.

·         Good understanding of relational databases and experience working with complex data sets. 

·         Proficiency in report writing tools (Crystal Reports) and SQL. 

·         Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office and knowledge of operating system.

·         Healthcare industry experience or home health experience preferred. 

·         Working knowledge of Cerner Beyond Now and Roadnotes a plus! 

·         Understanding of HIPAA.

·         Excellent communications skills with end-users, co-workers, and management.

·         Excellent troubleshooting skills including the ability to break down complex problems and solve technical issues presented by end-users in an efficient manner.

·         Excellent analytical skills necessary to analyze business problems and apply technology to resolve issues and/or increase operational efficiency of the patient care process.

·         Ability to work in a multi-tasking environment.

·         Must possess good organizational, time management, and project management skills.

·         Ability to manage systems implementation projects of varying scale.

·         Ability to understand the overall picture of the organization and help set the direction for the future.
