Alliances & Standards Manager

The Manager, Alliances and Standards will actively participate in the development of standards and industry specifications at the committee, working group and task force levels.  This person will represent  CO’s interests in these groups, negotiate with participants in an effort to achieve favorable outcomes from the groups, and provide feedback on these activities to all interested co  staff.  This position requires a combination of software engineering skills, communication skills, and diplomacy to work effectively within such groups.  Besides participating in calls and meetings, the work includes reviewing software (e.g. XML) and other draft documents to identify issues affecting Co, coordinating responses to these drafts, and authoring both revisions and portions of new drafts, including software, for submission to these groups.  Specific assignments will vary over time but initially may include various groups within DLNA, UPnP, and CEA.


Responsibilities:

- Actively participate in meetings and conference calls of various groups developing standards and industry specifications, negotiating with other members as needed to achieve favorable outcomes from these groups.
- Review draft documents including software (e.g. XML), write revisions, and propose changes or entirely new documents as part of the industry alliance and standardization efforts.
- Coordinate with Co staff worldwide to keep them aware of developments and obtain their input and opinions.
- Monitor industry developments to provide input to Co’s strategic planning process.
- Substitute for supervisor and others on other committees and groups as needed.

Qualifications:

- BS/BA in Software Engineering or related fields.
- 7 to 10 yrs applicable experience software development and project management.
- Experience should demonstrate advancement from software development (e.g. XML) into complex project management.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate well verbally and in writing, especially in a cross industry committee environment.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask (e.g. coordinate involvement in multiple committees simultaneously).
- Software experience should include the areas of consumer electronics and communications as it relates to home networking.
- Experience with industry consortia is highly desirable, especially DLNA and UPnP.
- Project management experience with multiple projects in consumer electronics and communication.
