Unix Administrator- Solaris

The Epitec Group, Inc. is currently searching for a qualified Unix Administrator with experience in Solaris, SunFire, and Websphere to place within a prestigious client in the local Michigan-Detroit-Metropolitan area.  The Unix Administrator who obtains this position will be responsible for: installing; troubleshooting and configuring. We currently have an opening for a (n) Unix Administrator to work at a large client located in the Metro-Detroit area.  End client is a recognized leader in Healthcare. 


Responsibilities/Job Description


• With general guidance and coaching, implements and performs on-going maintenance of servers on all technology platforms.
• Determines appropriate middleware for environment based on organization's architectural needs.
• Investigates new developments and makes recommendations on additions or replacements.
• Installs, configures, and maintains operating system workstations and servers, including web servers, in support of business processing requirements.
• Performs software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.
• Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with IT policies and procedures.
• Sets up and monitors software that is between the applications and the operating system.
• Communicates with the appropriate architecture groups to ensure that a unified direction is in place and is being followed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred.
• Minimum three (3) to five (5) years related experience preferred.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
• Significant creativity is required.
• Other related skills and/or abilities may be required to perform this job.
• Other duties may be assigned.
• Able to develop strong working relationships with team members both inside and outside of IT and key vendors.
• Able to work 24x7 including nights, weekends and holidays with a focus on SLAs and a strong attitude of accountability.
• Demonstrated experience in balancing and setting priorities.
• Demonstrated troubleshooting skills, detail-oriented and excellent analytical skills.
• Experienced in adhering to rigorous IT processes, standards and driving continuous improvements.
• Two (2) to four (4) years of experience administering the Sun Solaris operating systems versions 9 and 10.
• Two (2) to four (4) years of experience monitoring, troubleshooting and performing maintenance and repair on SunFire hardware.
• Two (2) to four (4) years of experience supporting day-to-day administration functions including user account creation and management, scripting with BASH, Korn, and Perl, OS installations, patching, Sun Management Center and FLARs.
• One (1) to two (2) years of experience setting up and configuring Solaris Zones.
• One (1) to two (2) years of experience provisioning and administering logical disk located on the Storage Area Network (SAN).
• One (1) to two (2) years of experience with security hardening on the Solaris platform.
• One (1) to two (2) years of experience with configuring and administering internal/external DNS
