Testing Analyst

The Testing Analyst utilizes an established knowledge base of the applications, data, and associated technologies for supported business areas, creates, documents and executes test cases and scripts and reports results. This position requires a high degree of knowledge in the areas of testing, and testing lifecycle (TLC) operational concepts in a large managed care organization. This position is accountable for performing assigned testing activities of enterprise-wide testing programs consisting of multiple related testing initiatives and providing the line manager with timely reports and status. The incumbent is responsible for coaching junior test analysts and adhering to defined internal controls and compliance standards. 1. Analyzes and interprets requirements, design and technical specification documents. 2. Based on requirements, design and technical specifications defines required tests and corresponding test data. 3. Identifies and documents appropriate test techniques and test tools for the level and type of testing to be performed. 4. Identifies most appropriate implementation approach for any given tests. 5. Assists in development of and executes to formal test plans per established guidelines to ensure quality delivery of the application under test. 6. During the testing process, monitors the application/system for exceptions and other items requiring post-test attention. 7. Develops testing documentation (i.e., test cases, test scripts) and obtains approval of the documentation from the testing manager, business owner and other stakeholders. 8. Executes tests developed and records results. 9. Conducts gap analysis discovery between expected outcomes and actual outcomes. 10. Analyzes and recovers from test execution anomalies. 11. Works with project managers and coordinators from the assigned operational areas on planning and execution of testing activities in project WBS. 12. Demonstrates a working knowledge of managed care operational areas and managed care products in each market in which AMERIGROUP operates. 13. Performs moderate to complex data queries. 14. Provides leadership and technical guidance to less experienced test analysts/designers. 15. Conducts test automation activities as assigned. 16. Develops training materials working with the SMEs in the department. 17. Manages multiple priorities at the same time. 18. Develops and maintains departmental performance reports. 19. Adheres to departmental and corporate policies and procedures. 20. Participates in relevant training programs, when available and offered. 21. Other duties as assigned. Education: Required: Bachelor's degree in information science, computer science, or a relevant area, or equivalent technical skills and experience. Years and Type of Experience: Required: * Seven or more years in experience in Information Technology including five or more years of manual and automated application testing experience in a managed care or similar business environment and three years or more experience and knowledge of diverse testing types (i.e., functional, performance, data conversion, regression). * Understanding of industry-defined testing services / methodologies (i.e., waterfall, iterative, agile). * Knowledge of requirements in different testing levels (i.e., unit, integration, system, UAT) * Exposure to and understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).development methods and relationship to testing activities * Solid understanding of database tables, relations, data types, and values. * Understands data modeling concepts (i.e., the entity-relation model) and their application: entities and tables, relations and constraints, attribute data types and column data types. * Detailed technical knowledge of application and database testing concepts. * Demonstrated ability to plan, design and implement test cases. Preferred: * Managed care environment. Specific Technical Skills: Required: * Two or more years of direct, hands-on experience using commercial test management and test automation software * Four or more years experience testing applications across mainframe, mid-range, client-server and web environments * Minimum of two years of experience: * Using MS Office Suite * Using the Windows operating system and its utilities. * Using the internet to conduct research and to download information. * Familiarity with data structures and data types. * Two years or more experience in utilizing data query tools (i.e., TOAD, SQL). * Ability to conceptual ideas with practical applications. * Demonstrates excellent analytical and organization skills. Preferred: * Two or more years of direct, hands-on experience specifically using Mercury Quality Center and Quick Test Pro (QTP) Preferred: Certified Software Test Engineer (CSTE) Other: Required: * Possesses knowledge of managed care including, but not limited to claims adjudication and payment, medical management, provider fee-for-service reimbursement, capitation, billing, enrollment, and benefits. * Possesses general understanding of how each department/health plan relates to the organization as a whole. * Ability to develop short range plans to accomplish specific assigned activities. * Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with all levels of personnel. * Demonstrates a detail-oriented approach to work activities. * Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with other business stakeholders. * Capability to participate in teams as a strong team participant. * Functions well in fast paced and changing environment and can make appropriate decisions. * Appreciates cultural diversity and sensitivity towards target population. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * Must be able to participate in meetings. * Must be able to operate a PC for extended periods of time. * Must be able to operate and effectively utilize office telephone equipment.
