Technical Consultant - POS

Position description:Individual contributor responsible for installation, configuration, engineering and management of complex application environments that may include multiple operating system platforms, languages, and network topologies. Highest non-management technical level within the application development organization.

*         Advanced technical expertise in languages, operating systems, databases, development tools, networking, and/or software packages.

*         Works with the IT Applications Manager to develop and test business applications.

*         Identifies innovative, cost effective ways to implement new technologies. *         Provides technical consulting/mentorship on complex projects. *         Formulates/defines specifications for complex operating environments and software. *         Full technical knowledge of all phases of software system development. *         Manages external vendor relationships. *         Acts independently under general direction. *         Indirectly manages technical personnel on projects. *         Provides input on associate evaluations. *         Provides or recommends required training programs for developing appropriate skills within the organization. *         Responsible for recommending technical application architecture design. *         Perform administrative functions relation to project activities; project plans, technical specification development, status reports, issue reporting, etc. *         Participates in, or may lead, system walk-throughs of technical and operational features, functions and attributes of a new or existing software package. *         Possess an excellent knowledge of software development (i.e., program design, flowcharting, coding, testing, debugging, etc.). *         Performs technical analysis of systems requirements for system requests, problem resolution and /or functional requirements. *         Leads the evaluation of new products, platforms, and technologies. *         Leads the design of security requirements within complex systems. Provides support for business critical applications. 

 

 

Qualifications:

*         Must have achieved an expert level of technical expertise in three or more of the following:  MS Sharepoint, MS BI- Performance Management/Performance Analysis, Java, JSP, C, C++, C#, SQL, XML, Jscript, Unix Shell Scripting, HTML, MQ Messaging *        Must have experience in the point of sales (POS) area *        Technical expertise on the following platforms:  J2EE, .NET Framework v2.0 or above *         Experience with SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) *         Experience in developing systems that SQL 2000/2005 databases *         Experience with multi-process programming *         Experience with multi-threaded programming *         Experience with the following operating systems: HP Unix, Linux and Windows *         Experience with NCR Advance Store POS *         Experience with AJB Credit Authorization and Charge Settlement system a plus*         Experience with Workbrain Labor Scheduling and Budget Creation Management systems a plus

 

*         Ability to understand how the software being used relates to the hardware and operating system being used. *         Excellent communication skills.  Ability to communicate with end users as well as other technical personnel. *         Knowledge of and experience with file transfer environments, applications, and tools *         Excellent problem determination and resolution skills regarding all technical aspects of the various systems *         Attention to detail to ensure high quality deliverables *         Ability to work in a very fast-paced, multi-task environment *         Four year degree in Information Systems or an equivalent combination of course work and job experience *         7-10 years of systems analysis and programming experience; minimum three years of project design activities *         Knowledge of retail industry a plus *         Proficiency with various languages, databases, operating systems, scripting languages, and utilities
