TELECOMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST (SATCOM) Multiple Locations In US
Tasks shall be performed at locations specified in Technical Exhibit A containing combinations of Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS) and Wideband Global Satellite (WGS) X-band satellite earth terminals with all associated Baseband equipment (Digital Communications Satellite Subsystem (DCSS), AN/USC-28 Satellite Communications Set and Standardized Tactical Entry Point (STEP)), and Military Strategic, Tactical and Relay (MILSTAR) terminals. Perform the duties associated with configuring, establishing, troubleshooting and maintaining equipment and services in support of Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) directed Strategic and Tactical/Deployed mission customers. The facility is comprised of communications systems providing long haul and Wide Area Network connectivity and access to DISN services. Work on a rotating shift, ensuring continuous reliable data communications services and mission support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Participate in the daily shift operations of the GIG acility. Perform daily PMCS on all systems equipment. Configure equipment for WAN connectivity based on DISA Technical Service Orders. Configure equipment according to SAA and GAA messages. Work with customers to analyze, fault isolate, and resolve problems in various types of interactive communications transmission media such as IP digital data and voice communications traversing DSCS/WGS/MILSTAR satellite and DISN networks. Use test equipment and data transmission test sets to determine defective equipment or degraded facilities. Apply knowledge of the communications systems and operational procedures to identify the problem, pinpoint the location, and restore communications. Operate and configure COMSEC cryptographic equipment. Responsible for understanding what constitutes a COMSEC compromise and/or incident and responsible for understanding the required reporting procedures. Responsible for understanding and following all regulatory guidance and SOPs. Responsible for ensuring that all regulations and policies governing the operation of cryptographic equipment, and the accountability and destruction of keying material are followed. Utilize Remedy ticketing system to record maintenance and report activities. Install, configure, operate, align, conduct performance tests, and level C Operator or Crew (Technical Manual (TM) Code – 10) and O Organizational or Unit (TM Code -20) on satellite communications equipment and associated devices. Conduct stressed and unstressed network operations. Perform quality control tests on circuits, trunk groups, systems, and ancillary equipment. This position is IT level III in accordance with AR 25-2.
