Technical Writer

The Technical Writer gathers, analyzes, and composes through multiple interviews and related research the technical information required for the preparation of user manuals, outreach materials, installation guides, proposals, reports, government-mandated documentation, etc. The resource assists in the creation and subsequently edits the functional descriptions, system specifications, user manuals, special reports, or any other client deliverables/documents. Examples of the tasks to be performed are:

Analyze the needs of the target audience (business and technical)

Study data and conduct in-depth interviews with data warehousing and other subject matter experts to understand the product or procedure

Produce and/or arrange for illustrations, charts, and photographs to be included in documentation

Edit, standardize, or revise material prepared by other writers or personnel

Prepare rough drafts of the document for review with the project staff and/or customers and lead the review sessions

Communicating effectively with others in writing as indicated by the needs of the audience

Information Gathering - Know how to find data warehousing-related information and identifying essential information

Information Organization – Determine effective ways to structure or classify multiple pieces of information.

Synthesis/Reorganization - Reorganizing information to get a better approach to problems or tasks

Study drawings, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail
