Senior Database Administrator

 

Summary

 



This position works under guidance and supervision of the Software Development Manager as a member of the support team for operational SQL Server databases with the following general responsibilities:

    Education and training of existing DBAs and developers on database operations and design.

    Maintain data integrity and security for all Hometown Quotes databases.

    Assure acceptable performance and security of database portion of any products offered by Hometown Quotes.



 



Education and Experience:

 



At least 5 years of experience working with Microsoft SQL Server (2000 and 2005).

Demonstrated experience with all of the following required: Transact-SQL, data modeling, DTS, SSIS, log shipping.

Experience as a database administrator including on-call duties required

Experience with tuning query performance, examining execution plans, using Profiler traces and other performance diagnostic tools

Experience with transactional replication preferred.

 



Key Job Responsibilities:

 



Operational

 



Install SQL Server in production, development and quality assurance environments. 

Tune SQL Server configuration settings, queries, physical and logical database design.

Be on call 24x7 on a weekly rotating basis and troubleshoot database issues individually and through a team effort.

Mentor and train other DBA staff and developers on the design and maintenance of databases, using best-practice procedures.

Investigate and resolve data issues as needed.

Must be methodical and able to establish priorities.

Must be able to recognize confidential data issues and maintain this confidentiality.

Assist in implementing SQL Server high-availability solutions including clustering, replication and log shipping

Perform deployments in production environment as needed.

Perform routine database maintenance and software upgrades.

Develop, test and execute disaster recovery plan as needed.

Backup and restore databases on production, development and quality assurance servers as needed.

 



Developmental

 



Assist developers and others with query and stored procedure development, tuning and optimization.

 



Team

 



Must be able to work in a strong team-oriented environment. Be eager to educate and mentor other DBA and development staff in database practices and design.
