Day to Day Work Our role is based in Harrisburg, PA and is part of Unisys Data PowerHouse (DPH) team.Unisys is seeking a qualified IT professional to join our team in Harrisburg, PA. We are looking for an experienced individual who will be responsible for consulting with customers to gather technical and business requirements, facilitate the development of technology solutions involving multi-vendor products and systems, provide technical support in the solution design process, and develop customer solution presentations. The Solutions Manager will be experienced in leading teams, planning and supervising the work of others and working in a collaborative manner across organizational groups to develop quality work products for solution proposals. The successful candidate will be able to function in an environment where requirements change frequently.FunctionsSolutions Management - Develops and maintains business relationships with key strategic partners, including strategic planning. Candidates must be able to lead and drive results across cross-functional teams. Experience delivering sophisticated presentations to customers and internal project executive teams is a necessity. Ideal candidates will possess strong strategic grasp of information technology and will have experience in dealing with ITO services. S/he will report to Chief Technologist and will interface closely with representatives across the enterprise. Candidates should also enjoy working with undefined business opportunities and be able to think creatively. The incumbent possesses listening skills to clarify and address client needs, conflict management techniques, and the ability to identify customer needs for additional Unisys equipment or services. In addition, the incumbent drives hard-to-resolve needs to resolution and finds complete multi-faceted solutions.Specifically, accountabilities include:· Attend business/technical requirements meetings and assist in documentation/analysis of requirements· Execute processes to achieve approved requirements · Facilitate the design leading edge infrastructure solutions to satisfy requirements by leading cross functional teams of subject matter experts· Manage vendor partners in the design process to obtain solution options with feature detail and costing information· Create the final Design Documents to convey solution descriptions, assumptions, costs, and risks· Develop and deliver presentations to explain requirements, solutions, and related information.· Support Request for Service and Change Order process to ensure new solution process is effectiveSolution Analysis - Applies analysis techniques and procedures for evaluating alternative solutions, which will efficiently automate procedures and effectively satisfy needs. Types of systems projects include installing new systems, recommending new small systems directly from user requirements. Prepare a project plan which includes all tasks required for the alternative selected: installation, conversions, contingency plan, and contacting users that currently have the new product or upgrade. Installation, conversion, maintenance, and testing may occur during nights or weekends in order to minimize any interruption in service to the end users.Provide documentation and consultation that informs users regarding the systems, services, and resources available to them. Types of consultation include coordinating or participating in user meetings; feasibility studies, brainstorming sessions, and assisting in the development of functional specifications and acquisition plans; interpreting, clarifying, and confirming service requests or contract change orders; and diagnosing and treating operations problems. Technology Evaluation - Stays apprised of industry leading technology and looks for opportunities to apply new solutions to the enterprise data center to address customer business issues, optimize utilization of data center resources in a multi-customer multi-platform environment, and improve operational efficiency. The Solutions Architect works with vendors to host Proof of Concept (POC) activity and develops success criteria for a product/technology evaluation.Project Management - Is responsible for developing the planning, scheduling, and controlling multiple complex systems projects concurrently in concert with supervisor, as well as software installation and maintenance projects by establishing major milestones, itemizing specific tasks, estimating effort, computing due dates, monitoring progress, reporting status and making adjustments. Types of systems projects include procuring new systems directly from user requirements, or customizing packaged systems purchased from software vendors. Types of software projects include: configuration management, change management, release management, availability management, service continuity management, and disaster recovery. The Solutions Managaer is knowledgeable and experienced with project management concepts including Work Breakdown Structures for project planning, Performance Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT), Critical Path Method (CPM), and Gantt charts for project scheduling, and variance monitoring for project control. The Solutions Manager uses personal computer-based project management software tools such as Microsoft Project to identify resources, document the project plan, monitor activities, track actual effort versus planned effort, determining schedule and cost variances, and in revising the plans. Interpersonal and Communications Skills - Deals effectively with a variety of people. The Solutions Manager must demonstrate skills in leadership, negotiation, team building, motivation, and decision making as well as presentation, written and verbal communication skills.Standards and Procedures - Collaborates to develop, publish, and promote standards and procedures which maintain the stability of routine services; which improve the productivity of staff efforts; and which assure the quality of delivered products or projects. Types of procedural activities include capacity management, availability management, service level management, service continuity management, disaster recovery, service desk management, incident management, problem management, configuration management, change management, and release management. Technical & Behavioral Skills Minimum Qualifications - Work is in Harrisburg, PA· 3 to 5 years experience in architecting technical solutions and/or leading solution efforts.· Thorough knowledge in project planning including use of leading project management software.· Extensive knowledge of state-of-the-art information systems methodologies, techniques, and tools.· Technical exposure to one or more specialties such as mainframe, server, storage, and/or networking. · Knowledge of open systems network concepts.· Knowledge of technical outsourcing business and contractual work.· Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.· Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with customers and staff.Desired Qualifications · Skill in more than one systems support tool such as: Remedy, or HP OpenView.· Experience in performing research and systems analysis quickly and efficiently.· Knowledge of distributed computing, local and wide area networks, network applications, WEB-based and client/server applications. · Strong written communication skills for: status reports, system documentation, standards and procedures, feasibility studies and system analysis. · Knowledge and experience in project management: planning, organizing, estimating, prioritizing, monitoring, controlling, reporting; leading, directing, and training.· Strong analytical, problem solving and research skills. · Ability to express technical information clearly and simply and to interact effectively with all levels of organization personnel and with outside vendors.· PMP Certification.· Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or closely related field.
