Senior Systems Engineer (desktop or imaging)

Functional Title:  Senior Systems Engineer (desktop / imaging)

Specific Job Description and Responsibilities:Lead selection and configuration efforts to next generation desktop and laptop computing platforms. Technically coordinate the company’s roll-out of new desktop platforms including systems configuration, installs, and user data migration. Identify, define, and quantify functional requirements and create hardware standards and enterprise images. Develop testing procedures for changes proposed to the desktop configuration and coordinate testing for the desktop computing environment. Assist in large scale system roll out and targeted distributions of software using Microsoft SMS 2003.or Active Directory Software deployment. Document technical environments, processes and procedures, testing plans and project plans. Assist in the documentation of desktop and laptop computing environment and lead cross-training initiatives for IT Service Desk staff. Applies understanding of computer software and hardware to diagnose problems, determine appropriate course of action, provide complete follow-through to successful resolution or escalate to appropriate support technician and/or department. Maintains accurate documentation in the Help Desk system of all major user requests, repairs and reported issues including cause, resolution and preventative action. Configures and provides instruction in the use of software applications on desktop computers for employees. Provides in-depth support on Windows applications, network connectivity, user accounts, network printing, and any other hardware/software issues. Works with other Technology Support staff to implement and maintain internal and external applications.



Required skills:Strong documentation skills. Experience in leading initiatives such as software distribution. Technical knowledge of software packaging technologies. Expert knowledge of Windows 2003 /NT 4.0/2000 and Windows XP Professional, configuration management and security aspects. Technical knowledge of scripting technologies: Script logic, Visual Basic Scripting, etc… Technical knowledge of imaging technologies: Norton Ghost, Microsoft RIS and SysPrep or other related imaging software. Networking knowledge preferred. Proficient knowledge SMS and Active Directory 2003. Technical Knowledge of group policy objects in Active directory 2003. Strong technical writing skills. Experience in providing technical support for PC's and local area network preferred. Two + years working in a Windows networking environment. PC hardware knowledge (specifically Dell systems) with the ability to troubleshoot hardware issues and experience interfacing with vendor support organizations. Proficiency with both using and maintaining MS Office suites. Ability to discuss and diagnose problems with computer hardware/software with remote users.



Other Requirements:Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 10 years of professional experience; Or 8 years of professional experience with a related Master’s degree. 7-10 years experience on Desktop imaging technologies. 5-10 years experience on implementing Microsoft core engineering products.



The client requires a background investigation and professional reference checks.  A drug test may also be required. At least a Secret Clearance issued by the Department of Defense is required.
