Senior Network Engineer, Specialist V

In this position, the candidate will be responsible for the design, management and support of P.G.E.'s corporate information systems infrastructure by providing technical expertise in the Network Services environment. The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for managing all activities associated with the Network Services environment. Responsibilities include: the forecasting of Network growth and upgrades, planning, design and implementation of Network systems, documentation, problem resolution, performance tuning of associated software and/or hardware components, as well as monitoring Network systems and Network resource utilization. The individual in this position is also responsible for researching new technology and keeping up with changes and advancements in Network platforms, as well as best practices in architecting designs and solutions for Network systems and associated services. This individual is key to ensuring availability of Network systems and critical to maintaining business continuity. The individual in this role is required to exercise a high degree of ethics given the access to sensitive areas of the organization this position affords.Typical requirements include: A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience in a related discipline with five or more years of previous network engineering experience. Thorough knowledge of principles, theory and concepts used in a Networking discipline. Ability to propose and manage small to medium-sized projects involving multiple IT disciplines. Duties require a broad knowledge of technical concepts, practices and procedures and a variety of computing, voice and data skills, as well as a familiarity with various operating environments, applications and equipment, particularly as it relates to Network systems including: Hands-on knowledge and expertise working with diverse networks, routing, switching, wireless, unified communications, network management and cable plant systems. Advanced knowledge of industry best practices relating to network design and implementation. Ability to quickly troubleshoot and resolve complex issues. Capacity planning and analysis. Ability to develop network designs, justify purchases, create detailed timelines, configurations, as well as technology briefs and train clients and peers.A valid driver’s license with evidence of safe driving habits required. This position is considered a Shared position under FERC Order 2004 Standards of Conduct for interstate natural gas pipelines and electric transmission providers.
