Job Description:
****RELO NOT PROVIDED FOR OUT OF TOWN CANDIDATES****Our client in Ft. Worth, Texas has a need for a Jr. SQL DBA. This is a fulltime position. This individual must live in the Ft. Worth or Mid-Cities area. They will be the sole DBA. They will not be doing development only supporting purchased software packages (OEM).
To coordinate physical and logical changes to the company's databases and to support systems using those databases.
Create and maintain all databases required for development, testing, training and production use.
Perform capacity planning required to create and maintain the databases.
Perform ongoing tuning and performance monitoring of the databases.
Install all versions of SQL Server including service packs and “hot fixes”, SQL Server tools and any other tools that access the databases.
Plan and perform backup and recovery of all SQL Server databases.
Control migrations of database changes through the development life cycle. (Change control)
Implement and enforce security for all of the SQL Server databases.
Perform database re-organizations as required to assist performance and ensure maximum uptime of the databases.
Establish and maintain sound database change management procedures.
Evaluate releases of SQL Server and its tools, and third party products to ensure that the company is running the products that are most appropriate. Planning is also performed by the DBA, along with the application developers and System administrators, to ensure that any new product usage or release upgrade takes place with minimal impact.
Provide technical support to application development teams.
Ensure the integrity of the databases.
Administer all database objects, including tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, scheduled jobs and DTS packages.
Assist with impact analysis of any changes made to database objects.
Troubleshoot problems regarding the databases, applications and development tools.
Create new database users as required
Setup and maintain documentation and standards.
Determine and set the size and physical locations of data files
Actively participate in disaster recovery plannin and practice drills.
Additional Responsibilities :
Create, Review and recommend changes to I.S. Database standards
Monitor the performance of databases in functional area of responsibility
Work with application programmers using the databases in their applications
Assist on special projects as assigned
Good attitude and work ethics that will influence subordinates and peers to ensure a high standard of performance
Provide 24X7 on-call database failures and problems.

3+ years as a SQL DBA
PeopleSoft experience is a huge plus
Technical Skills- Proven experience as a DBA, supporting production datbases, some knowledge of development languages (Visual Basic, C, XML, ASP, Java, HTML).
