Linux Application Tester DETAILED DESCRIPTION The candidate will provide Operational Testing services working from our Chicago corporate offices. Responsibilities include test design, test execution and results analysis & presentation. Additional responsibilities include assistance with server builds and some light development tasks. RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with developers and project management teams to develop operational tests appropriate for each application. Design a test plan and coordinate test roles, responsibilities and activities. Work with developers, network & system engineers, monitoring specialists and operations personnel to conduct tests to: Ensure application is production ready, Conforms to all company application operations standards, Exhibits known & documented failure modes. Communicate application issues back to developers and/or project managers for resolution. Must adhere to all company change management standards and practices. Escalate issues as appropriate. Document test and maintain test results library. Unix workstation Administration. Create/Maintain/Achieve agreed upon goals. Semi annual performance self assessment. Shell Scripting (typically in bash). Some tool development (bash, Perl, Python etc). Define and implement small work efforts that improve process, monitoring, workflow. Follow/enforce processes needed to maintain operational stability.QUALIFICATIONS: 7+ years of system administration experience in a Unix environment (preferably Solaris and Linux). Previous experience with a large Unix environment preferred. Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and networking principles as well as web technologies Working understanding of Linux troubleshooting commands in regards to disk I/O, CPU usage, load, and network connections & usage. 3+ years applications testing experience. Some Java programming experience a definite advantage. Good application development skills utilizing Perl, Python and/or PHP & MySQL or Oracle. Familiarity with SQL databases on MySQL and Oracle. Familiar with the monitoring tools such as Mercury Topaz, Netcool and HP Openview. Demonstrated ability to smoothly manage multiple concurrent tasks and prioritize them appropriately. Has clear & concise ability to communicate issues (verbally and in writing) in a less technical sense to management and business. Hold self personally accountable for results Self-motivated team player, able to set priorities and manage to deadlines. Excellent trouble-shooting, communication and customer service skills. Must be available to support in a 24x7 production environment on an as-required basis. Demonstrated ability to proactively resolve problems Strong ability to perform well under pressure Must be able to multi-task, be process-minded and detail oriented Passion for uptime and experience in e-commerce environments Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience
