I.T. Technician

Steel Industries Inc., located in Redford, MI is looking for a full time I.T. Technician.  This position involves assisting the IT Manager in the security and confidentiality of all aspects of the company’s computer network system. The IT Technician position is an entry level position and as such will largely take direction from the System Administrator and the IT Staff.  The amount of experience and job performance will determine the amount of input this position will have in any decision making. 

Steel Industries has a 10/100 ethernet campus network that spans 6 physical locations at five (5) addresses in Redford and Livonia.We use fiber, fixed wireless and VPN to connect these locations.

Areas of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Support all departments with user support and help desk.  Must be able to interact with all personnel within the organization, contractors brought in and external support services.

• Will support our workstation hardware:  PC's, printers, and telephones.  User support and assistance, documentation and preventative maintenance.

• Responsible for special application administration including VPN, fax server, fileserver, document storage, systems backup, calendar services, and situational database administration outside of the primary business system.

• Will be responsible for network cabling and other tasks that require working a manufacturing environment when necessary.

• Follows company policies and procedures

• Is responsible for knowing the quality policy and having a basic understanding of

all work instructions appropriate to the position

• Other duties as assigned

Knowledge

• Knowledge of computer software

• Knowledge of electronic and electrical background

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to work under the pressure of schedules

• Strong computer skills

• Good organizational skills to put priorities in order

Education

• High school diploma with classes in computer or equivalent work experience

Experience

• Previous experience helpful but not necessary

• Previous computer or telecom related training helpful

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to work in different conditions

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

• Standing, walking, sitting up to 8 hours per day

• Some exposure to production environment

• Able to work with minimal supervision
