Job Code: HITS08081047 Job Description: Under general supervision, performs installation, maintenance and repairs to a wide variety of telecommunications systems, equipment, cabling and to other related systems and equipment in FTI facilities. Performs other related work as required. This is a support level position to the Route Program Manager requiring a thorough knowledge of the installation, maintenance and repair of telecommunications related systems and equipment gained through formal education or from considerable and varied experience in working with the installation, service activation, maintenance and repair of telecommunication systems and devices. Ability to repair and test telecommunications related systems and equipment; operate related tools and equipment; install and operate related computer systems; troubleshoot and repair microprocessor based control and communication equipment; diagnose electronic failures to the component level; interpret electrical codes and regulations; maintain accurate records and prepare reports; communicate effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other contractor employees and the FAA. Guaranteed 40 hours per week. Position may require overtime, which would be compensated.  Qualifications: High School or Associate’s degree or applicable work experience.    Possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record as conditions of initial and continued employment. Obtain and maintain active DoT Clearance (FAA badge). Capable of lifting 70 pounds. Capable of utilizing ladders or step stools to reach heights of approx 10 feet. Ability to work out of one’s home in an “on-call” status. Financial compensation for on-call status has been factored into hourly rate. FREQUENT TRAVEL – 100% Travel. Applicants must be able to travel to remote sites Should another location require additional support, technicians may be asked to travel outside of their assigned region. Overtime - Applicants must be able to support maintenance as required to support roll-out of new sites and scheduled maintenance which may occur at any hour. Technicians will be required to remain on-call but will not earn overtime wages unless called out for maintenance after reaching 40 hours. Compensation above and beyond 40 hours per week is guaranteed at time and a half (1.5 X Rate), should the employee need to provide maintenance. Experience:  Computer Knowledge & Skills: PC literate (Microsoft Office, upload and download files, update records, administrative duties, e-mail, time sheets, Internet, etc.) Good working knowledge of cable connectors and replacement, such as RJ-11, RJ-45, DB-25, V.35, RS-449  Have a excellent working knowledge of fiber, working knowledge of Multiplexes, Network topology, Frame Relay, Fractional T-1, SONET Network Technology, ATM, Private Line, Voice and Data applications  Must be proficient in using a laptop to set configurations on equipment such as Cisco routers and other components of an IP Network.  Implementing software changes (Upload, Download & SW Regression) Installing new software and hardware into various devices such as PCs, Cisco Routers, Sun servers, etc.  Familiar with configuration and operation of the Eastern Research DNX, PSX, ISP and LPM products.  Familiar with configuration and operation of the Cisco 3662, 3725, 3745, 2950, 4215, 8850’s  Familiar with configuration and operation of the Sun Microsystems.  Familiar with configuration and operation of the Harris Intraplex Chassis and channel cards a plus.  Good working knowledge of power testing, AD and DC including 3 Phase AC. Familiar with configuration and operation of the 24VDC & 48 VDC power supplies. Experience with network and circuit testing with T1 Testing Specifications, DS3 Testing, Digital Testing (BERT), and Analog VG Testing within Bell Core Standards.  Working knowledge and usage of the Ameritech AM5XT, Sage 935, Digital O-scope, Halcyon 704A, Para-scope or other T1/DS3 Test sets.  Be responsive to callouts and periodic on call availability including working with centralized control centers. Willingness and/or ability to work outside regularly scheduled hours to meet operational needs and to respond to after-hours emergency calls as required.  Excellent customer service skills.
