Job Category:Operations Services Primary Location:USA-CT: CONNECTICUT-MERIDENSchedule:Full-time Job Type:Standard Employee Status:RegularJob Posting: 2008-09-09Description: Essential Job Functions Provide day to day operational support for a 60,000+ sq foot data center in Meriden, CT which includes the following platforms: Wintel and Unix Systems, Oracle and SQL Server databases, SANs from various vendors, network infrastructures, tape backup systems, and mainframe computers and peripherals. Provide support for all facilities aspects of the data center including space planning and utilization, power and cooling. Key equipment includes UPS systems, switch gear, PDUs and HVAC. Provide leadership for growth and ongoing operational improvements, including efforts to align services, processes and the organization with best practices. As a senior member of the organization, the individual must represent the entire organization while developing and maintaining parterships and relationships with the business units and supported organizations. Oversee all hardware and software audits including SAS70s and SOX audits for the data center. Experience in the management of outside vendors, managed services and outsourcing arrangements is key. Must have a demonstrated ability to successfully manage all aspects of change to the computing infrastructure and problems that arise to maximize system availability and reliablity while minimizing risk. Must have experience with the development and management of operating and capital budgets and have proven ability to keep within spending limits. Individual must be a team player and have the ability to take leadership positions on various projects that cross multiple data center lines. Individual must have an excellent understanding of trends and direction of emerging technologies, especially 'green' technologies in the data center space. Oversees the development and implementation of internal as well as Federal and State mandated standards, policies and procedures for all areas of the data center. Organizes and develops the proper execution of control functions including input-output validation, accuracy and quality assurance, security and maintenance of data and program libraries. Develops budget estimates and justifications including providing cost information used by other entities for budget and planning purposes. Develops requirements for maintaining satisfactory service levels, operation logs; production schedules and data media performance levels. Manages the overall activities of systems administration staff to ensure that employment decisions are efficient and in accordance with organizational strategy. Develops and directs the data center inventory control, property management and disaster recovery programs within the agency. Selects and hires employees. Trains and evaluates employees to enhance their performance, development, and work product. Addresses performance issues and makes recommendations for personnel actions. Motivates and rewards employees including providing salary increases, bonuses and promotions within allocated budgets and company guidelines. Prepares, recommends and oversees development of operating and personnel budgets. Monitors spending for adherence to budget plans, develops and recommends variances. Performs and/or oversees budget analysis. Develops and directs staff in the development of hardware and software studies and the development of technical and managerial education programs; preparing progress reports for upper-management on project status which may deviate from the proposed goals. Develops compliance standards for the optimum utilization of all computing software, hardware and telecommunications. May represents the organization at conferences and meetings regarding data center management systems and procedures. Basic Qualifications Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Master's degree in business, computer science or related field preferred Twelve or more years of data center administration experience Nine or more years of supervisory or management experience included Experience working with company objectives and strategies Experience working with technology involved in systems applications, PC networks and usage of company internet system Experience working with software, systems, applications, and network markets Experience working with systems infrastructure including hardware configuration, operating systems and networks Experience working with mainframe, scheduling software, and other related technologies Other Qualifications Strong organizational and decision making skills Strong personal computer and business solutions software skills Strong human relations skills to select, develop, mentor, discipline and reward employees Strong communication skills to communicate with subordinates, vendors, customers and management Ability to lead and work in a team environment Ability to maintain formal and informal networks Willingness to travel offsite Remote Work Location Authorized:No Relocation Assistance:Not AvailableClearance Level:None Create Success
