DATA WAREHOUSE DBA
Relevant Work Experience:: 5+ to 7 Years Education Level: Bachelor's Degree Description:The DBA will be responsible for taking a lead role in the administration, optimization, and maintenance of Partners Healthcare's Financial Data Warehouses and Data Marts. This position will be actively involved in the design, review and maintenance of database structures, ETL and query optimization, and data management. This person will also be part of a team of DBAs responsible for the PeopleSoft Financials & HR applications (using Oracle on Windows), along with a number of third party applications, and will share on-call and production support responsibilities with the rest of the team. This position has primary responsibility to provide operational support to the data warehouse/mart development and production environments. Data Warehouse Responsibilities Analyze business and technical requirements, as well as data warehouse data models, to understand the detailed data management requirements. Collaborate on data architecture design and planning as the subject-matter expert for the physical structure and implementation of data warehouses and data marts. Including providing specifics for hardware layout and system settings (e.g., disk configuration, memory settings, data page or tablespace definitions) and planning and creating databases. Design, document and build physical database environments from table, column, index and view definitions to storage requirements and drive spacing and growth accommodations. Work with ETL developers and data analysts to identify, design and implement solutions for extraction and integration of data to and from data warehouses and data marts for the purposes of reporting, decision support and analysis. Manage, Monitor and Administer database and system performance. Including optimization and tuning of data loads, extractions and recommending appropriate procedure, query or package changes and optimizations to ensure and improve system performance and reliability. Manage job and activity schedules to promote optimal performance, maximum availability and minimize data latency and data load durations. Work with the Data Architect to help implement the physical data model for the development and / or production environmentsProduction Support Support multiple production Oracle (and possibly SQL Server) databases and associated applications. Requires 24x7 on-call support for production systems on a rotating weekly basis. Troubleshoot and resolve production problems. Monitor system performance, backups, and scheduled jobs. Work with developers or vendors when necessary to resolve issues.Other Responsibilities Administration of Oracle in a Windows environment. Develop and implement scripts or stored procedures to automate repeated actions. Manage and support backup and recovery using Data Pump/RMAN/TSM. Install and maintain tools, such as OEM Grid Control, Quest Toad, and Mercury SiteScope/BAC. Work closely with developers, vendors, and people from the server, network, and SAN teams to ensure best practices for the design, integrity, and performance of systems. Manage assigned projects and resolve or escalate issues to the appropriate level of management. Support the application platform, including the middleware server and software used in support of the business systems. Work with application developers in tuning efforts as well as problem resolution. Set up new environments -- install & configure software, build databases, create start/stop scripts, schedule jobs, etc.Qualifications:5 years of data warehousing and business intelligence experience Extensive experience in Oracle database administration. Expert in sizing, capacity planning, DTS/SSIS with data warehouse solutions in Oracle or SQL Server environment. Experience working with high volume databases with partitioned data, performance and tuning experience is required. Performance tuning & development skills - SQL Profiler, Performance Monitor and Explain Plan assessment, SQL scripts, stored procedures, triggers, functions and transactions analysis, thorough understanding of indices and statistics (Query Optimizer). Strong knowledge of Data Warehousing methodologies and concepts, including and not limited to: star schemas, snowflakes, ETL processes, dimensional modeling and reporting tools. Pursue a proactive approach to problem solving. Must have a bachelors degree preferably in the area of computer science. Must possess good communication skills both orally and written to provide the appropriate level of production support, communicating issues and resolutions to all levels of staff and management Must be willing to contribute as a team player. Must be willing to carry a production support pager Experience with Oracle in a Windows server environment preferable.
