Business Intelligence Developer

A developer on the Business Intelligence (BI) team will participate in the development of BI applications following departmental standards. Accountabilities include working with customers on initial development of business requirements through all of the SDLC steps to implementation. This position will require proven understanding of each of these development stages. On call support of production applications is required. Training customers and other analysts will be required when needed. Collaboration with Business Partners, DBA’s, data modelers, and business analysts is a key to BI development. Qualified candidate will be called to demonstrate their communication skills with customers, team members, IT infrastructure and management in IT and the Business. This candidate will be working as a Cognos Developer to help support current and future applications. They will be expected to analyze, design, develop and maintain Cognos ReportNet (reporting) solutions in a Cognos 8 BI environment. They will also provide Cognos product expertise and guidance to report developers. On a daily basis, this candidate will support and maintain existing Cognos applications. Business Intelligence/ Data Warehousing Discipline • Minimum 3 years experience participating in the development of Business Intelligence / Data Warehousing systems • Thorough knowledge of current Business Intelligence / Data Warehousing principles and best practices as they apply to the Data Warehousing lifecycle and architecture Business Intelligence/ Data Warehousing Technical Skills • Technologist will support Information Delivery and Business Intelligence internal offerings using Cognos technologies. • The ideal candidate should have 3-5 yrs experience supporting analysis, design, build and implementation of automated BI solutions. • Ability to create and execute systems testing to ensure fail safe integration of programs into a production system is a must. • 2 years minimum experience with Cognos 8. • 2 years minimum experience with developing reports, dashboards and cubes using one or more of the following: Cognos Connection, Query Studio, Report Studio, Analysis Studio and/or ReportNet. • 3 years minimum SQL experience working with any major RDBMS like Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, and/or Teradata. Minimum Qualifications: 1. BA/BS or equivalent work experience. 2. Skill and proficiency across software development disciplines and ability to integrate basic architecture principles into solving business problems. 3. Strong interpersonal communication and problem solving skills. 4. Strong project management skills. 5. Ability to contribute to the team in both a strategic and tactical capacity.
