As a Web ApplicationDeveloper, you are responsible for the development, customization,integration, and support of internal and external .NET applications.  In order to be successful, the incumbentwould need to be intimately familiar with the use of frameworks andtechnologies such as XHTML, XML, VB.NET, C#.NET, ADO.NET, ASP.NET 2.0 and 3.5,SQL, Web Services, Microsoft Office SharePoint, SQL Server 2005, Visio, and VisualStudio 2008. 

 

The incumbent must have semantic coding skills oraccessibility and web-standards understanding so as to produce web applicationsthat are browser-agnostic, W3C and Section 508 compliant. A thoroughunderstanding of data normalization is required.

 

In this position, the successful candidate would be expectedto work closely with and across cross-functional groups, scientists, andcollaborators to allow the interaction and retrieval of data from disparate andin-situ platforms. The candidate would also need to assist in theaccomplishment of each scientific program’s overall goals.

 Major Responsibilities and Critical Tasks Develop lightweight solutions in ASP.NET 2.0 or 3.5 using both VB.NET or C#.NET, XHTML, Web Services, and other internally utilized technologies. Develop, design, and document data relationship schemes, and arrange/confirm data normalization and integrity. Utilize SQL Server 2005 as a repository in support of dynamic web applications using industry-tested best practices for authentication and authorization Build visual interfaces which allow partners to interact with related databases for internal and external use Develop web services utilizing .NET architecture to support both internal and external end-user needs. Produce site prototypes that are functional XHTML documents representing the structure, navigation, and visual elements of the site Complete system analysis and design utilizing both traditional and object oriented methodologies. Integrate the technical requirements of the project with the overall visual design and support existing applications and end-users through troubleshooting, break/fixes, and education. Conduct performance-tuning for both web applications and databases to provide high levels of availability. Monitor the support queue for incoming requests and adjust activities as necessary based on priority. Determine an appropriate course of action for these requests, and follow them through to completion and end-user satisfaction. Meet development milestones and deliver prompt communication to management and project-related partners when there are issues with schedules. Support and enhance critical business systems – both 3rd party and internally developed applications. Migrate data from legacy applications to the web. Operate laboratory and field equipment in support of project-related activities which may include sampling and report/manuscript preparation. Coordinate daily activities and provide assistance to other staff as needed Prepare technical and qualitative documentation for each project Maintain familiarity with computer information systems literature

 Required Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or related field

·4 -5 years supporting and developing custom webapplication solutions

·4-5 years experience with Microsoft SQL Serverin an Active Directory environment.

·2-3 years experience using Adobe Photoshop toaid in the design of visual interfaces

·6-7 years experience with VB.NET, C#.NET,ASP.NET, ADO.NET, XHTML and semantic markup to produce standards-compliantwebsites

·2-3 years experience with additionaltechnologies such XML and Web Services

·Solid understanding of normalization andrelational database concepts

·Experience with distributed database technology

·Experience working with oceanographic and/orenvironmental datasets

·Strong analytical/mathematical skills are highlydesired

·Ability to communicate effectively in bothwritten and oral forms with all levels of the organization. 

·Good interpersonal skills, ability to interviewusers and design optimal solutions for their problems, and the ability to workwith other developers to solve larger problems

·Willing and able to be on call 24 / 7 and ableto return to the facility if needed outside of regular business hours
