Technical Systems Administrator

Description:

Under limited supervision, administers all aspects of Application servers, Database servers and Web servers. Responsible for Technical Support problems/issues and issues by spotting reoccurring issues and devising a solution to prevent them.  Responsible for implementing and maintaining security logs, scripts and network systems to insure security and help with in house audits.  On call and possible after hours/weekend work.

 



Objectives:

· Manages 60+ servers, ensuring that each server has 100% uptime (scheduled maintenance not included)

· Troubleshoots problems with networks, web services, mail services and overall aspects of a data center environment.

· Maintains a broad knowledge of operating systems, programming languages and hardware including Windows 2003 server and Red Hat 5.1, sql and oracle databases.

· Monitor system logs and activity on all servers and devices

· Physically installs hardware equipment in rack and attaches to network, routers, firewalls.  Capable of doing frequent software imaging for smaller customers.

· Strong knowledge of troubleshooting production servers on both hardware and software level.

· Has strong knowledge of security of networks and servers

· May lead or guide the work of other staff engaged in similar functions

· Attend and actively participate in daily status and/or weekly meetings

· Coordinate with release and development team to schedule releases of software updates on production servers





Requirements: 

· 4-6+ years experience in Systems Administration

· Knowledge of TCP/IP stacks and their functionality

· Advanced knowledge and troubleshooting of Windows Server 2003, Linux (RedHat/Fedora)

· Advanced knowledge of Cisco firewalls and switches including Fiber Channel.

· Working knowledge of trouble ticketing systems i.e. Remedy, Monitoring software, and change management systems i.e. Tripwire.

· Working knowledge of Symentec NetBackup and tape management systems and SAN systems with Fiber Channel.

· Knowledge and troubleshooting of sendmail and postfixAdvanced knowledge and troubleshooting of MS SQL Server 2000/2005 and OracleWorking knowledge of application security, understanding of vulnerabilities and countermeasuresAbility and desire to learn new skills quicklyEffectively communicate issues and resolutions to all levels of the organizationAbility to maintain confidentiality with sensitive customer and internal information
