System Support Technician
A Modis client in Columbia, SC has an immediate opening for a System Support Technician.Position Purpose: Provides first-level telephone and e-mail support to system users by diagnosing and solving a wide variety of problems involving terminals/personal computers, networks, and software applications. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES • Serves as a central point to receive requests for assistance from users to resolve routine problems with hardware or software applications using the system support software system. • Tests system fixes to ensure problems have been adequately resolved. • Prioritizes and escalates problems to the appropriate person(s) when required. • Performs on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of hardware and software problems for end users and implements corrective solutions, including off-site repair, on an occasional basis. • Monitors server backups and conducts routine server maintenance (space available, logs, anti-virus signatures, etc.) to ensure critcal operations information is retained. • Creates identification badges and assigns badge access according to position and location. • Establishes new users, deactives users, and assigns employees to security levels on all network and software systems. • Sets up and configures new personal computers and servers and reconfigures existing PCs and servers according to position, location, and functionality. • Assists the department in accurately maintaining documentation, procedural manuals, help sheets, disaster recovery documentation, etc. • Provides on-call support and batch processing for systems on a rotating basis. • Keeps supervisor informed of area activities and any significant problems or concerns. • Assists area personnel and other departments/branches as needed. • Maintains regular contact with other departments to convey/obtain information and/or to correct problems. • Develops and maintains effective working relations with members, coworkers, and business contacts. • Resolves or refers questions, requests, and problems to appropriate personnel promptly and courteously. • Conducts training sessions and cross-trains employees as appropriate. • Completes special projects and other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: High school degree required. Associates degree in related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Microsoft Certified Professional, A+, MCDST, and CCNA Certifications preferred. Thorough knowledge of TCPIP and LAN/WAN networking concepts. Excellent understanding of PC operations and software. EXPERIENCE: Two to three years of experience on a computer help desk or equivalent experience working with computer hardware and software required. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to use all types of computer, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Ability to manage and coordinate projects with multiple individuals and departments. Well organized, attentive to detail, and deadline-oriented. Excellent phone skills. Problem solving abilities. Ability to work independently. Proficient typing skills.
