System Software Manager

Key Responsibilities:

 

* Manager of System Software development group manages day to day activities and priorities of the System Software team. The System Software team members are responsible for developing system infrastructure for ECI’s Carrier Ethernet Switch Router (CESR) product line. System infrastructure includes the Linux operating system, a rich C++ based system utilities and OS abstraction layer, high availability infrastructure, the ECI CESR command line interface, and all system-level management functions (e.g. software installation, authentication and authorization. etc.)
* Working with product management and the development team to evaluate the feasibility and scope of new features
* Creating and maintaining development schedules
* Day to day management of developers including prioritizing tasks to achieve both new feature development goals as well as ensuring that relevant bugs are fixed in a timely manner
* Technical leadership and direction. Candidate must be a hands-on technical leader/manager, evaluate the risk/complexity/benefit tradeoffs in the development of new features is a key skill
* Performing staff performance bonus evaluations and reviews.
* Ensuring that the right balance of design documentation and review is performed.
* Interview/hire new developers
* Providing direction to QA on how to effectively test new features.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

* 10+ years of experience in software development. Experience working for network equipment vendors is desirable but not required.
* Understanding of the following technologies is highly desirable: operating systems in general and Linux in particular, C++ and object oriented development methodologies, the C++ Standard template Library, high availability architectures, GCC/G++ and their related utilities, and data networking concepts.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
