System Operations Engineer

 

Knowledge Services is seeking a Systems Engineer as part of a team responsible for planning and executing the integration of Internet based products and services for shared  Platform Services into a complex data center and network environment in an efficient, secure, scalable, reliable and cost effective manner. This position will primarily support the Registration, Commerce, Business Intelligence, CRM, and Data Warehouse systems.

Primary responsibilities include implementation and support for Internet based solutions developed for a internet sites. This includes any applications, hardware configuration, custom software implementation, database administration, network and systems design, performance and availability monitoring, process improvement, and systems documentation.

The successful candidate will possess a work style that promotes progress through collaborative teamwork in a dynamic environment.  Must be very detail-oriented, thorough, have excellent analytic skills and be able to work independently.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION3+ years experience designing, supporting and deploying Internet-based products or services2+ years operating and supporting complex, large-scale Enterprise ApplicationsBachelor’s Degree in MIS, Computer Science, Math, Engineering or a related field; or equivalent experience in Technical Operations or Software DevelopmentExperience supporting e-commerce site and services preferred

 

 

Specific Skills

 Detailed knowledge of server hardware technologies and systems support – administration, configuration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, security, and general maintenance Experience with enterprise operating systems including Microsoft Windows and LinuxDetailed knowledge of core Internet and networking protocols (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, ARP, HTTP, HTTP/S, SSH, BGP, EGP, and IGP), IP communication, packet structure, load balancing equipment, and troubleshooting

· Experience working in a high capacity, highly scalable mission-critical web serving environmentStrong systems knowledge, including familiarity with client server architectures and their physical components (servers, network devices, disk-subsystems and SAN)Experience with database schema design for OLAP and OLTP and database management systems including Microsoft SQL Server and OracleProven ability to participate with other functional teams in systems integration and design including writing operational specifications, test plans and requirements management with attention to detailSuperior judgment, problem resolution, team building, negotiation, and decision-making skills as well as the ability to work under continual deadline pressureSuperb written and verbal communications skills Experience with F5 load balancing helpful
