Storage Test Engineering Manager

Description:As a Storage Test Engineer Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects related to the manufacturing test of NetApp storage products at all manufacturing sites. The main responsibility is to develop new storage test processes and to support the test manufacturing sites to ensure they can meet their deliveries of high quality products. The Storage Test Engineering Manager will have a staff of engineers that design and validate test tools and support and assist production staff and Contract Manufacturers Engineers with product or test process issues to ensure timely resolution and delivery recovery. The role includes two specific areas of technical responsibilities: development of new test process and tools (hardware and software) and continuous improvement of product quality. The Storage Test Engineering Manager will plan, lead and manage complex challenges within his group but also across functions. The person must be able to communicate well, provide clear technical directions to his team and coach employees to higher standards. Essential Functions:- Guide a cross functional team on new storage test approaches and their development- Define objectives and project ideas for the team to drive continuous test improvement- Monitor test yields and pareto- Evaluate and optimize test coverage- Work closely with Design Engineering and Partners to resolve design issues- Optimize test time- Implement and monitor proper the data collection to remedy any quality issues- Ensure our processes and tools are well documented- Manage the transfer or implementation of storage test process to our manufacturing sites. Ensure his team provides training and documentation to NetApp contract manufacturer sites on our test automation tools and product troubleshooting guide.- Monitor test equipment utilization and ensure that we have the test capacity to meet our customer forecast demand.- Ensure the timely installation and maintenance of the test network and test infrastructure at our suppliers sites.- Monitor the product change process for new software/ firmware/ hardware releases and ensure that all changes are implemented appropriately without production interruption.Requirements:- The candidate should have test engineering experience in a field comparable to NetApp technology. - Experience in Hard Disk Drive and storage technology is required- Experience in management of technical staff - Experience in sustaining production support would be a plus.- Experience in project management would be a plus- Strong communication skill, both written and verbal- Strong project management and leadership skill- Ability to work under pressure- Software experience in some of the following languages: Java, C, Visual Basic, PERL is a plusDomestic and international travel may be requiredEducation & Experience:- A minimum of 8 years of experience is required.- Bachelor Degree in Electronic Engineering or Computer ScienceEducation and Experience:- A minimum of 10 years of experience as an individual contributor and a minimum of 5 years as a people manager is required. - A Bachelor Degree in Electronic Engineering or Computer Sciences is required- The candidate should have test engineering experience in a field comparable to NetApp technology. - Experience in Hard Disk Drive and storage technology is required- Experience in management of technical staff- Experience in sustaining production support would be a plus- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, critical projects is required- Software experience in some of the following languages: Java, C, Visual Basic, PERL is a plus- Domestic and international travel may be requiredQualifications:Requirements:- Excellent oral and written communication skills.- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and organizational skills.- Excellent knowledge of product lifecycle, tools, processes, and operations planning.- Demonstrated experience working with hardware and software development engineers on complex projects.- Experience with developing budgets and predicting project costs.- A demonstrated ability to manage professional level employees. - Proven track record of surpassing objectives and delivering exceptional results.
