Sr. Systems Engineer - Infrastructure Team Lead

SR. SYSTEMS ENGINEER – Infrastructure Technical LeadANNAPOLIS, MDCONTRACT TO HIREHOURS: 9 - 5 and on-call Modis is currently seeking a high level, Sr. Systems Engineer that is highly proficient with UNIX and Windows and has experience working with VMWare.  Our ideal candidate is one who is driven by problem solving. Must have VMWARE and UNIX! Job Description: The Infrastructure Technical Lead (ITL) is responsible for the care, maintenance and troubleshooting of the complex infrastructure that is leveraged for the hosted solutions for our clients. In this technical role, the ITL acts as the liaison between all other Departments and Operations throughout the troubleshooting lifecycle. The successful candidate will have the technical background and hands-on experience to properly research, specify and execute upon infrastructure changes and upgrades necessitated by the issues related to environment he/she is troubleshooting. The ITL will help formulate and maintain standard operating procedures and other necessary playbook documentation as it relates to troubleshooting methodology. This role will also be responsible for coordinating necessary Operations resources and efforts to ensure the timely success of all projects in which Operations participates. A successful candidate will also be a disciplined and rigorous with respect to documenting requirements, plans and solutions. A successful candidate will stay abreast of changes in technology and industry practices, and be an effective communicator in addition to being an ambassador for the Operations department. Finally, the successful candidate will possess a high level of personal organization skills and attention to detail. Required Skills: Sufficient technical knowledge and hands-on experience with a variety of enterprise level technologies including, but not limited to: Clustering technologies Load balancers HTTP caching and acceleration High availability networking x86 multi-core multi-processor server class hardware Large scale storage solutions Windows/Linux/Unix operating systems Large scale Oracle/SQL Server operations. Strong TCP/IP networking skills Working knowledge of VMWARE and virtualized environments Ability to independently research, specify, cost and plan appropriate solutions to meet project requirements on time and in budget with an eye for maintainability and availability Ability to document/update standard operating procedures Ability to document complete Troubleshooting Plans Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced Operations environment with fluctuating priorities and deadlines  Preferred Skills: VMWare, Linux, Unix, Windows We are not looking for people with exposure to the skills required, we candidates who know the functionality as well as the technical side and the ability to know how they work and impact each other.  For example, someone should understand how storage, network hardware, servers and desktops all work together and if one breaks how it can impact the other.
