Software Architect

Spectrum Controls, Inc., a growing product leadership company providing electronic instrumentation to the Industrial Automation market, is seeking a Software Architect experienced in embedded systems, industrial and networking protocols, and web based interface technologies to lead a team of engineers developing a new product platform. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

This is a high impact position that requires a well-organized and self-motivated individual who thrives in the “fuzzy front end� of a project. Candidate must have a talent for collaborative, iterative, product concept development in a smaller company setting.

 

New product platform development will require familiarity with the following technologies:

*  Web based, graphical data visualization & human machine interfaces (HMI);

*  Embedded platform operating systems like Linux, Windows CE, and proprietary RTOS’s;

*  Secure, remote, wired and wireless data access solutions;

*  Data logging, alarming, and connectivity to enterprise software and databases;

*  Serial and Ethernet based industrial automation protocols.

 

Additional responsibilities include designing, developing, troubleshooting, and testing software for high precision industrial instrumentation and communications products.  Technical skills should include experience in C programming for embedded systems, knowledge of operating systems, compilers, emulators, and embedded system design.  Responsibilities will also include the specification, design, and evaluation of software for analog data acquisition modules and communication protocols for industrial products.   Hardware design knowledge and/or experience is highly desirable.  This position typically requires a BSCS, BSCE, BSEE or equivalent and ten years design experience.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Experience in the following areas is desired:

*  Software design and validation for real time embedded systems;

*  Embedded web applications development, Java, Ajax;

*  Embedded Linux, Windows CE, and proprietary RTOS’s;

*  SMS messaging, GPRS, EDGE, 3G;

*  Industrial controls communication protocols and data exchange;

*  Communications protocols for Ethernet, TCP/IP;

*  Serial port protocols for RS-232 and, RS-485;

*  Data access interfaces to Oracle, SQL Server, and other databases;

*  Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) and Industrial Automation applications;

*  Embedded software for data acquisition & control, using precision ADC’s and DAC’s;

*  Windows Apps, using Visual Studio, Visual Basic, Visual C, C++,would be helpful;

*  Windows GUI and application design using Visual Studio, would be helpful;

*  Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills required.
