SOFTWARE ENGINEER
JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Software Support Supervisor, this position's responsibilities will include installing, maintaining, and trouble-shooting application related software (languages, utility programs, information retrieval access methods, generalized input-output control systems, etc.) on various platforms, mainframe, or client server. In addition, this person will assist the technical staff and operations' staff as needed.
EXPLANATORY COMMENTS
This person will have primary responsibilities of installation, on-going support, and maintenance of computer software applications. The work activities of this position require the individual to advise users and other development staff regarding the best approaches to systems design relative to software capabilities and hardware features. He/she will also assist the operations center staff by developing and implementing software to improve utilization effectiveness. In addition, identification of potential improvements and recommendation(s) for changes regarding hardware and software are required. Excellent communication skills are necessary in order to interface with staffs and departments. The position may require the incumbent to work on projects which have a tight time frame and may require extra hours and weekend work to complete.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Requires the completion of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Programming or Computer Science from an accredited institute OR equivelant work experience. An understanding of VB.Net, Visual Studio, Microsoft Access, Visual Basic 6.0, HTML, ASP.NET, and SQL Server is desired. Knowledge of classic Active Server Pages will be helpful but not required.
MAJOR DUTIES
Installs software/applications necessary to operate computers and correct software/application problems
Writes computer programs in required languages
Analyzes and corrects system errors
Prepares documentation as neccessary.
Tests and debugs software and hardware.
Participates in planning meetings to determine County needs
Indentifies potential improvements and recommends changes as needed
Provides training and education as necessary
Interfaces with vendors as required
Works closely with other staffs on problems involving software
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Mandatory in-County residence requirement after one (1) year of employment
