Network Operations Center Technician (NOC)

Network Operations Center TechnicianBaltimore, MDContract to Hire Modis is searching for a candidate to work the evening shift (2-10p M-F) in our clients IT Operations Center. The duties will include working with other analysts within the IT Operations Center and performing 2nd level triage and remediation. This analyst will have responsibility for maintaining the reliability of the environment utilizing HP Openview’s Management suite of products. A strong background working in IT Operations environment is recommended. Primary Job Duties: 1. Primary responsibility is monitoring the availability of the IT environment. Responsibility for the monitoring and restoration of the Infrastructure following documented processes. 2. Ability to follow documented processes. 3. Perform network diagnostics to remediate detected/reported network incidents 4. Perform scheduled network configuration changes (SW/HW). 5. Work with groups within IT Infrastructure and IT Applications in resolving problem issues. 6. Document alarms and process for use by other analysts within the Network Operations Center. 7. Must be flexible with O.T. and possible shift changes to cover for vacation/sickness. 8. Maintain/update NOC standard operating and escalation procedures, personnel contact lists, and other NOC documentation as directed by NOC leadership. 9. Prepare IT network and systems performance reports and operating statistics as directed by NOC leadership. Job Qualifications: • Working knowledge of HP’s Openview Operations, Network Node Manager • Network skills Experience (CCNA). • Working knowledge of Load Balancing environment • Extensive Understanding of data network hardware (Switches, Routers…) • Working knowledge of IT network and systems management tools (experience with HP OpenView NNM, HP OVIS, HP OVPI & CiscoWorks) • Proven skills in troubleshooting and resolving problems with a large scale IT distributed systems. • Ability to correlate problems with causes, and involve higher level technical personnel support personnel, as needed, for timely resolution of IT network and systems outages • Ability to compile operating data/statistics and prepare performance reports • Knowledge and experience with Windows 2OOO/2003, XP. (MCSE a plus) • Knowledge and experience with AD, DNS, DHCP • Experience with firewall environment Desktop Skills: • Experience with Microsoft Office suite Other IT Skills: • Familiarity with change management practices in an IT operating environment • Familiarity with IT network security practices Interpersonal skills: • Ability to work with internal IT clients of varying abilities • Ability to prioritize tasks • Ability to handle high pressure situations • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment • Self-starting; willingness to take personal initiative and lead others • Strong customer service skills • Highly effective written and oral communication skills Additional Requirements: • May require ability to work at night, off-hours, holidays, and weekends (on-call rotation) • This position may require emergency call-in during severe storm mobilization and electric system damage restoration.
