Job Description:
We are looking for a talented mid-level network administrator who would like a position with increased responsibility, where you would be able to help us expand our network and help us plan for our future growth. You need to be a jack of all trades type, with knowledge of Linux, Windows, and Novell products. You'll have the opportunity to work with some of the latest technologies. Some project management ability is a must as you will be helping us revamp many of our systems from the ground up. There are some very exciting times ahead of us.
Responsibilities:
Capacity planning and design of infrastructure systems (switches, firewall, LAN, etc.)
Infrastructure project management
Hardware, software and service change planning and recommendation
Configuration and maintenance of company’s critical systems (GroupWise, Saleslogix, SwitchVox, VMware ESX servers)
System services integration and monitoring
Business process mapping and documentation
Creating and maintaining scripts to automate system tasks
Hardware, software and service vendor management
Creating and updating system and process documentation.
Server and IT room maintenance
Creating and updating Standard Operating Procedure manuals.
Duties:
Administers a network consisting of around 70 workstations, running Windows, Mac OS or Linux-based operating systems.
Evaluates and recommends purchases of hardware, peripheral equipment, and software to satisfy business needs.
Installs, configures, and maintains Novell,Microsoft and Linux networks, GroupWise collaboration system, Windows workstations, file servers, ethernet networks, network cabling, devices, and systems.
Performs and oversees software and application installation and upgrades; maintains site licenses for organization.
Plans and implements network security, including building firewalls, managing host security, file permissions, and file system integrity, and user management.
Troubleshoots networks, systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions.
Manages corporate cell phone plans & apparatuses.
Assists users in maximizing use of networks and computing systems.
Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and systems.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Strengths:
Exceptional skills in organizing resources and establishing priorities. Excellent time management skills, oral and written communication complimented with strong interpersonal skills. High degree of self-initiative and ability to perform with minimum supervision.
5 years of progressive experience in IT industry, at least 2 years in a mid-level infrastructure position in Novell & Microsoft Windows or Linux environments
Hands-on experience with VMware ESX 2.5 or later, configuration and maintenance of Linux based firewalls and routers, setting up network monitoring solutions, administration of Terminal Server or similar system.
Intimate knowledge and understanding of Linux, Microsoft server and desktop operating systems.
Intimate knowledge and understanding of network services and common protocols :DHCP, WINS, DNS, Group Policy, eDirectory, VPN, Proxy, FTP, HTTP, etc.
Working knowledge and experience in administering Novell GroupWise Server, webservers, and system backups.
Experience in installing, configuring, and maintaining personal computers, networks, and/or related hardware and software.
Experience in using and customizing common disk imaging applications.
Experience in remote application deployment techniques.
Ability to manage technical projects involving several departments and to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
Ability to identify and resolve computer system malfunctions and operational problems.
Knowledge of available computing and/or network hardware and peripheral equipment, of computer and/or network security systems, applications, procedures, and techniques.
Persons with industry certifications are preferred.
