This is an opportunity to work in the investment bank capital of the world at one of the largest investment banks, as they are continuously experiencing growth; they are searching for an individual able to grow with them as they go through dynamic change. The candidate will join the IT team dedicated to serving Global Energy Traders. This position requires a combination of strong development and communication skills. As a developer you must translate business requirements into software. You will balance use of new technology, rapid development, and reusability. You will interact at all levels with a number of business and technology groups/users including Trading, Trade Support and the Application Support. You must work well with other teams distributed all around the globe, and you should be flexible in your working hours when required to ensure meetings/releases and other activities are completed as the business dictates.

 

To provide and maintain technology that allows the trading desk to execute faster, have better market knowledge and better decision tools than our competitors. This will involve developing new applications, services and websites and extending existing applications to support new products and markets.

 

A dedicated 24 hour support team provides 1st line support but the developers will be required to get involved to resolve more complex problems. The role involves frequent interaction with the Application Management team and users for problem resolution / investigation, other development teams.

 

Applications will be developed using the Commodities development standards which include ensuring builds are performed on the Build Server, that test coverage levels are met and that production releases follow the change management standards.

Main Function

Working within an agile development lifecycle this front office development role involves work from inception to delivery of components for the Trading Desk

 

The main development areas are:

 

·  Investment in existing system capacity and performance

·  Order and Price Routing

·  Electronic Trade Capture

·  Trade Execution and Management

·  Position Management

·  Monitoring and Control framework

 

Working within the software development cycle this role covers

 

·  Analysis

·  Design

·  Coding

·  System testing

·  Deployment

·  3rd line support for the application management team

 

The components are delivered to:



·  Oil trading desks globally

·  Other development teams supporting a range of commodity products

 

The Oil development team works exclusively on a windows platform, this is primarily C# (.Net 2 Server, .Net 1.1 Client) for new developments with an existing code base comprising of C++ core components, VB6 legacy COM, and JAVA and C #. SQL Server 2000 is used extensively as are the middleware technologies Smart sockets and IBM MQ Series.

 

The team has been implementing an agile development methodology and this process itself is continually being updated. The process includes continuous integration with Cruise Control, extensive use of NUnit and automation of environments through MS Virtual Server

 

Qualification / Education Preferred

Numerate degree Science, Math, Engineering or Computing

 

Experience Required 

Business (at least one of the following):

·  Electronic Trading applications, Order Management and Trade Capture

·  Position Management

·  Derivatives knowledge

·  Oil business knowledge (e.g. refining, transportation, products, market participants)

·  Commodities and Commodity Derivatives (Swaps, Futures, Options)

 

Technical

·  Development on windows server and workstation

·  N-Tier / Service Orientated Architecture on Windows platform

·  MS SQL Server development in a multi user environment

·  Excel/VBA

·  C#

·  MS SQL Server

·  XML/XSLT/XSD

·  Web Services

 

Control

·  Development under source control

·  Unit test components to the required level of coverage

·  Understand concepts of security, auditing and support requirements of applications

·  Ability to escalate issues to management in a timely fashion

·  Communications with trading personnel including gathering requirements and problem solving

·  Discuss design issues and problems with conflicting technical/business requirements

·  Ability to identify and communicate improvements to the development process

 

Management and Leadership

·  Lead technical innovation and adoption of new processes / tools within the team

·  Track projects in MS Project and report on progress
