Messaging Engineer
Title: Messaging Engineer The Team Technical Architecture – The position is a part of the Mailing operation team and fills a senior role in our messaging systems operation group. Position description As a senior member of our messaging operation department, the candidate will be responsible for maintaining and improving the company’s state of the art global messaging environment. The candidate will work with SMTP, Email best-practices, RFC text messages standard, and related email concepts, protocols and methods along with the opportunities to perform major upgrades to our messaging platforms. The candidate will work alongside our mailing development team to help design and support our unified messaging environment. Job Requirements The candidate shall have a broad background in messaging technologies and shall have demonstrated proficiency in the following areas: • Proficiencies with open source email servers like Qmail, Postfix or Sendmail • Strong knowledge of SMTP protocol • Strong understanding of DNS and how it relates to SMTP infrastructure • Anti-Spam Technologies • Anti-Virus Technologies (messaging specific) • Messaging DR best practices • DKIM/Domain, SPF, Reverse pointer knowledge • Ultra high volume messaging environment • Understanding sender’s base score • Experience in ISP communication, feedback loop, etc • Working experience with at least one of the enterprise class email campaign manager• Strong working experience and knowledge of *nix, Linux and Windows OS Job Responsibilities The candidate will have the following responsibilities with the potential of expanding: • Researching and developing solutions to meet enterprise wide messaging needs. • Researching, architecting, testing and planning the integration of new messaging technologies and upgrades to existing platforms. • Staying current with new technologies, and industry best practices; particularly those dealing with messaging • High level maintenance and troubleshooting of the current messaging environment based on industry “best practices”. (Responsibilities include but are not limited to troubleshooting and resolving high level mail routing issues, mailbox issues, deliverability issues; adding
emoving messaging servers, configuring servers, services, routing policies, etc., establishing maintenance procedures based on current industry BP). • Maintaining and troubleshooting SMTP internet gateway issues. • Keeping documentation up to date for the messaging environment. • Testing and deployment of upgrades, hot fixes and other updates. Education and/or Experience • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent 4 to 6 years of relevant experience. • Excellent problem solving, written and oral communication skills. • Deep knowledge of SMTP, DNS, and related email concepts, protocols and methods are required.• Strong working experience in *nix, Linux and Windows environment This position is responsible for operational support of and project initiatives involving the Messaging environment. This position provides maintenance, support, and enhancements of the messaging systems including Ironport, Mirapoint, Qmail, Sendmail, Strongmail, Exchange, Outlook, Microsoft mobile messaging and Good technology. Candidates should be team players with excellent communication skills and have the ability to manage a multitude of assignments independently. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include: Analyzing, planning, testing, and implementation of Messaging application software, actively pursuing new technologies to improve effectiveness and efficiency of the Messaging systems, monitoring and analyzing the Messaging systems to ensure 100% uptime operational availability, Support high availability technologies, performing root cause analysis and providing recommendations to improve efficiencies and resolve problems, resolving problems with Messaging systems and technologies, escalating problems to vendors, providing troubleshooting training to the User Support team, implementation and maintenance of disaster recovery solutions, documenting system uptime and usage metrics, maintaining documentation of processes, procedures, troubleshooting guides and change management logs, must provide 24x7 On-Call support on a rotating basis, must be flexible to work overtime as required.See Job Description
