IT Support Specialist, 5 PM to 2 AM

Our client is located in Lansing, Michigan and is looking for an IT Support Person.  Candidates need to have or be working on obtaining their MCSE and they need extensive experience with Cisco.

This is a 3 month contract-to-hire position.  The job will be an evening shift, approximately 5 PM to 2 AM.  Initial training may be done on day shift.

 

The successful candidate needs 5 years minimum on the job experience with systems and telecommunication.  Candidates also need at least an Associates College Degree and a Bachelor's degree is preferred.

 

Candidates should have experience with Windows 200x Workstations/Server setup/troubleshooting, user interfacing/support, RF infrastructure, LAN/WAN Networking, Cisco, Telecommunication setup/support, Phone system setup/maintenance.

 

Job Description:

 

Tech support position in monitoring and maintaining servers and hand held RFID units for just-in-time inventory application for client.  Must be able to be flexible in work hours (even at different locations occasionally such as Lake Orionor Highland Park) and shifts, although this position is in Lansing and will be the evening shift (approx 5PM to 2AM).  Will install, train and assist users with respect to the application. Keep servers up to date with software updates and service pack installations. Execution of standardized procedures with respect to applications and server upgrades/support. Document all incoming calls/issues.  Be on call for priority situation 24 hour access, 15 minute call back.

 

The ideal candidate needs to be knowledgeable of networks (workstations, networking, servers etc), how they work and are configured.  Should have experience with a large network, supporting  more than 100+ workstations.  Client will train them on their installation but the candidate must possess a good understanding of data com principles. Knowledge of distributed switched networks such as troubleshooting the installation and or design additions to the network is needed.

 

Skills: Windows 200x Workstation/Server setup/ troubleshooting, user

telecommunication setup/support.

 

Responsibilities:

Document all incoming calls/issues.

Review daily task list and prioritize, keep end users up to date on status.

On call for priority support (operations can not perform their job). 24 hour

access when on call, 15minute call back requirement.

Flexible in working hours when required. To work other local locations and

shifts when needed.

Installing, assisting and training of users, as needed on applications.

Execution of standardized procedures.

Monitoring of Servers.

Possible travel to other sites for installation/training of new

applications.

Keeping up to date on software updates and service packs.

All reasonable requests by management. This is a team environment and

sometime tasks beyond responsibilities are required.
