IT Infrastructure Internal "Consulant" role - Contract to Perm

Our Premier Financial Services Client in Riverwoods IL is in search of an IT Infrastructure Specialist for an "Internal Consultant" role.  The Ideal Candidate will have a background in Unix and Windows Engineering and also some Business Analyst or Infrastructure Architecture Background as well.  This is not a hands on role and requires excellent business acumen and very strong presentation and communication skills.  It is more of a consultative role working with the Application Development Groups and assisting them with the full IT lifecycle as it pertains to the infrastructure needed for their applications. 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Technical Consultant is responsible for technical requirements gathering, technical design creation, and high visibility communication within the IT organization. Scope includes participation in technical and non-technical project meetings, development of presentation quality technical documentation, conflict and problem resolution, and communication of design criteria and direction throughout varying levels of management. Must be able to consult with internal customers, vendors, management, and technical staff to access needs, requirements, and develop standards based and/or custom solutions as required.

Detailed responsibilities:

- Provide single point of contact for projects with infrastructure impact.
- Derive, understand, assess, and challenge customer requirements.
- Manage the design and delivery of enterprise wide infrastructure environments throughout a project lifecycle. Ensure delivery and configuration meets or exceeds customer requirements.
- Understand, communicate, and challenge current standards and processes where appropriate.
- Maintain working knowledge of IT industry and trends.

Skills:

Required:
- History of communicating complex ideas to different audiences and/or levels of company employees and adapting style and tone as required.
- Experience negotiating, persuading, and driving issues to resolution. Builds support and agreement by engaging all interested parties and understanding their perspective(s).
- Consistently demonstrates follow-through in honoring commitments to internal and external customers. Accepts the challenge of unfamiliar tasks.
- Experience building, nurturing and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships within cross-functional teams. Actively prevents problems by anticipating the impact of decisions on customers and colleagues.
- Experience in IT enterprise architecture, engineering, operations, or support (2 years).
- Excellent verbal, writing, and presentation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio.
- Experience with PowerPoint.
- Periodic travel may be required (less than 5%).

REQUIRED :
- B.S. degree in Computer Science or related field
- Experience with AIX, RedHat Linux, and Windows Advanced Server.
- IT process design and improvement experience.
