IT Help Desk Technician

The primary purpose and mission of the IT Help Desk Technician is to ensure proper computer operation so that associates can accomplish business tasks.  This includes receiving, prioritizing, documenting and actively resolving associate help request.  Problem resolution may involve the use of diagnostic and help request tracking tools, as well as require that the individual give in person, hands-on help at the desktop level.

Job Duties

 

· Field incoming computer help desk requests from associates in a courteous manner.

· Document all pertinent associate identification information including name, department, contact information, and nature of problem or issue.

· Build rapport and gather detailed information on associates problem and concerns.

· Prioritize and schedule all associate computer issues and problems.  When required, refer to the appropriate experienced technician.

· Track and document the help desk request problem-solving process for each help desk issue. s

· Review software updates via the Internet and through other sources as a means to problem solve help desk request.

· Identify and learn appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the organization.

· Perform hands-on desktop level repairs; including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, assist with file backups, and assist with configuring systems and applications.

· Perform preventative maintenance, including checking and cleaning of workstations, printers, and peripherals.

· Evaluate documented resolutions and analyze trends for ways to prevent future problems.

· Develop help sheets and frequently asked questions lists for associates.

· Maintain software and hardware inventory.

· Assist in gathering bid prices on equipment and supplies as needed.

· Troubleshoot phone, fax and copier issues.

Job Skills

 

§ Associate Degree and/or 2 years equivalent work experience.

§ Entry-level experience with personal computers and windows applications.

§ Entry-level experience in Client/Server Windows environment.

§ Ability to effectively communicate both in written and verbal form, in English.

§ Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport building, listening, and questioning skills.

§ Strong documentation skills.

§ Ability to conduct research into a wide range of computing issues as required.

§ Ability to absorb and retain information quickly.

§ Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.

§ Keen attention to detail.

§ Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

§ Exceptional associate service orientation.

§ Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
