Hardware Mechanical Engineer

Responsible for conceptual and detailed engineering of computer enclosures delivering on aggressive program schedules. You will independently develop and execute engineering analysis/testing to drive engineering solutions to multiple complex mechanical problems while negotiating cross-discipline requirements (i.e., emi vs thermal, design for manufacturing, design for serviceability, design for cost, etc.). Representing company's interests and requirements while interacting with cross-functional team members and external vendors and qualification of production tooling at external vendor's sites. Job Requirements You must have working knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals with demonstrated experience performing closed form solutions to scope mechanical engineering issues and appropriate use of finite element methods to optimize designs against engineering requirements. Additionally, the position requires demonstrated experience in system and sub-assembly mechanical design of server or other computer related hardware using 3D MCAD software. Good verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to write clear engineering reports and presentations is required along with strong collaborative teamwork skills. Demonstrated experience solving structural static and dynamic problems utilizing both Finite Element Methods and Experimental Modal Analysis is a plus along with demonstrated experience with Geometric tolerances and statistical tolerance analysis and statistical design of experiments (DOE).Sun Microsystems Inc. is an equal opportunity employer and appreciates your desire to be considered for a position.
