Go to www.cray.com for more information.The Strategic Projects & Future Architectures group within the Cray Performance Team is looking for a skilled and motivated engineer or computer scientist to work on XMT applications. XMT is a Linux/Unix based massively multithreaded parallel shared memory system. As an XMT applications engineer, you will be working to develop and maintain distributed applications for a parallel computer system targeted for high-end production oriented data centers.RESPONSIBILITIES: The ideal candidate will have a background in parallel computer applications, computer hardware, and software; and be able to apply this technical expertise to the benchmark and application porting needs for multithreading partners and customers. The responsibilities for this position will involve:• Port existing applications to Cray’s XMT system; implementing existing and new algorithms to take advantage of the threading features associated with this architecture to obtain application performance that will differentiate Cray in targeted markets; • Educate potential customers on multithreading, shared memory and lightweight synchronization; and be a technical focal point for external customers and prospects for the XMT system and multithreading. • Help potential customers on the specifics of the XMT architecture and implementation, including the hardware, compiler, runtime, debugger and performance tools. • Assist in the selection of existing and emerging applications as potential candidates for the XMT. • Document strategies and tactics used to port and tune codes to the XMT and integrate that information with the engineering and documentation team. • Help in the bring-up of new systems that are currently being developed at Cray. The successful candidate must be able and willing to work effectively under sometimes demanding deadlines and to adapt to rapidly changing requirements. Off-hours work will be required at times, along with minimal travel.QUALIFICATIONS: • BS degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or Engineering field is required, plus 5-8 years of directly related experience. Equivalent combination of advanced degree and experience is desired.• 3 to 5 years experience with shared memory parallel programming is highly desirable • Willingness to do all phases of the application development cycle • Experience delivering a technical application to, and supporting an HPC application for, an external customer • Expertise with Multithreading, C/C++, System programming and debugging • Linux/Unix operating systems experience • Strong analytical and problem solving skills • Good written and verbal communication skills for internal and external interactions and presentations • Ability to work well in a cooperative, fast-paced, schedule-driven development environment • Ability to work independently • Flexibility and willingness to adapt easily to changes. Relevant experience and the demonstrated ability to quickly acquire the above skills and qualifications will be considered.
