Drive Qualification Test Engineer
Summary:
The Drive Qualification (DQ) Test Engineer will participate in the development, integration, and testing of Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) deployed in various storage-related hardware under the direction of a senior staff member. The DQ Test Engineer needs to be competent with storage related hardware and software, a variety of HDD device interfaces, and have a natural affinity towards automating common tasks with a combination of software and hardware.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
§ A high knowledge of SCSI protocol, Microsoft Windows Server, and at least one flavor of UNIX/Linux is a must.
§ Expertise with SATA, SAS, or Fiber Channel standards and specific vendor implementations
§ Core expertise may include but not limited to device interfaces (PATA, SATA, SAS), computing system IO performance and architecture, and hard disk drive mechanical integration in system chassis.
§ Design, test, and refine test cases and test plans for configuring and testing hard disk drives in storage systems to meet performance, reliability, and functionality requirements.
§ Ability to design and create software or scripts to automate storage solutions tasks and test suites considered a plus.
Qualifications/Education:
§ Authorized to work without restrictions in the U.S.
§ Degree: B.S in one of the following majors preferred: Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Background in software and/or firmware development a plus.
§ Travel: Some domestic air travel to regional technical centers may on occasion be required.
§ Advanced experience with several of the following is needed; midrange to advanced networking, RAID, SAN, NDMP, TCIP, FC and/or iSCSI
§ Experience with Hard Disk Drive (HDD) test or storage interconnect test, e.g. SAS, SATA, FibreChannel
§ Working level knowledge of storage hardware concepts (SAN, RAID, SCSI, SAS, SATA, FibreChannel and disk drives)
§ Working level knowledge of common office applications
§ Ability to perform practical engineering assignments applying basic engineering principles to the solution of System Engineering problems
§ Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, and engineering specifications
§ Ability to respond to technical inquiries from co-workers, customers, and vendors in a clear, accurate, and professional manner
§ Ability to work with mathematical concepts (e.g. probability and statistical inference, dimensions, and tolerances)
§ Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and develop, prove, and document the conclusions and/or solutions
