Computer Technician

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

1. Responsible for repairs and ongoing maintenance of networked computers and associated systems.

2. Documents, maintains, upgrades or replaces hardware and software systems.

3. Resolves computer problems, both hardware and software.

4. Works closely with the Director of Government Information Systems to develop a clear understanding of networking philosophies and strategies to support the mission of the Government Information Systems Unit.

5. Tests systems, printers, hardware, and software to ensure correct operation prior to implementing service.

6. Responsible for providing some after hours support to guarantee operation of office network systems.

7. Provides some on-site computer training, whenever necessary.

8. In conjunction with the Director of Government Information Systems, monitors some aspects of computer use to guarantee that staff strictly adhere to the Nation’s Acceptable Computing Use policies.

9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

1. Bachelor’s degree in Information Science, Computer Science or related area preferred, combined with 1 – 3 years experience in the field or in a related area.

2. Comprehensive knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, procedures and software tools for Internet networking and support.

3. Extensive Internet and computer networking experience required.

4. Must be familiar with Microsoft XP Professional, Microsoft Office 2003 products, and Server 2003 operating systems.

5. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

6. Proven ability to work with desktop, and server technologies and tools.

7. Excellent verbal communication and organizational skills.

8. Must possess basic knowledge of cabling systems and wiring topologies.
