Applications Engineer

SGI is seeking an Applications Engineer to join our team of experienced professionals. As an Applications Engineer you will assist strategic third party software developers with certification and optimization of their applications on SGI hardware platforms. You will work primarily with visualization applications.Responsibilities include: *Supporting certification efforts of third party software developers. * Analyzing and documenting application performance characteristics of the applications for which you are responsible. * Driving SGI differentiation, both in performance and features, into key applications. * Frequent interaction with SGI product engineering and marketing on current and future product feature requirements and directions. * Support the SGI sales team with pre-sales technical assistance and customer benchmarking related to the applications you support. * Occasional travel to work with software vendors is required. Candidates located near our Sunnyvale, CA location are preferred however exceptional remote candidates will be considered.Requirements: * BS, MS, or PhD in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or equivalent. * At least 5 years software engineering experience in HPC and Visualization * Strong understanding of OpenGL and DirectX APIs and architectures is required * Experience with software development tools including compilers, debuggers, and performance measurement tools along with an understanding of multiprocessor hardware architectures, capabilities, and parallel programming techniques.* Ability to multitask and strong organizational skills.* Excellent interpersonal and strong communication skills are required.
