Specialist Customs Classification

The Customs Specialist classifies all products according to the country specific customs regulations. This position provides valuable information for marketing, development, sourcing and planning decisions and is the basis for a smooth customs clearance process.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Analyze products according to the information in the development systems to find the right customs tariff codes for different customs regions in a defined timeline. Classify according to the actual local regulations and laws.

Consult Product Management, Product Development and Product Costing departments about the possibilities of product changes to reduce duty rates and avoid customs risks for the adidas group.

Prepare classification data and provide reports for Global Planning and Sourcing to give a substantial basis for current and future decisions.

Support local customs departments worldwide to ensure a fast and proper customs clearance.

Maintain all data systems regarding classification information (like RMS/PDM/IAM/LAC) and make suggestions regarding improvements to increase the data quality.

Work closely together with Product Development to be informed about the latest product technologies and train them about the latest customs regulations with direct influence on the business.

Obtain binding rulings for new products or in case of uncertainty and build up a close communication with classification authorities.

Explain new directives and practices to colleagues in the team to ensure a unique information level and avoid information deficits.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Basic knowledge of the US classification rules

Good communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel – Access a plus)

Ability to read, analyze and interpret governmental regulations

Requisite Education and Experience / Minimum Qualifications:

College degree or equivalent in customs business

1-2 years experience in a customs department or a similar area
