Scientist - Operations Research

Are you looking for a challenging position in a dynamic research team in the field of Operations Research?  We are recruiting a Scientist for our Process Control & Logistics team. This R&D position would be based either in Newark, DE or in Houston, TX.Mission: Develop supply chain & logistics solutions for industrial gas distribution and product sourcing in close collaboration with Air Liquide Operations Teams.Responsibilities:

  Drive innovation in research projects focused on development of decisions support tools based on operations research & optimization. Define the optimization problem, specify requirements and investigate options (models & optimization algorithms) for solving the Operations Research problem. Identify, evaluate and select industrial or academic partners if necessary. Develop solutions for specified problem in Operations Research. Validate prototypes corresponding to business requirements and evaluate savings. Ensure the transfer of the prototype to the operations entities and provide support to the industrialization phase.

  Work within a multi-disciplinary and international team including internal and external partners. Maintain international cooperation with the R&D counterparts globally. Contribute by writing technical research papers and patents to capture know-how and promote Air Liquide research. Establish reputation for quality and timeliness of technical Supervise the work of students and research assistants. Transfers “know-how�. Manage technical communication between R&D, outside partners and Air Liquide partners. Manage technology transfer to R&D, partners and other Air Liquide entities.

Qualifications / Requirements: Candidates must have Ph.D. (or M.S. with 2 to 3 years experience) in Operations Research and/or Industrial Optimization, with direct experience in technical project management. Knowledge of optimization methods & algorithms (combinatorial optimization, linear programming, heuristic, graph theory) in relation to supply chain or logistics project development is desired. Prior experience in statistics, stochastic optimization and finance is a plus. The ability to listen, understand and summarize customers needs (specifications, validation and problem definitions) is required. Independent working habits, excellent oral and written communication skills with strong team attitude are required. Knowledge of industrial gas production and distribution processes is desired but not essential.
