SR MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a Senior Mechnical Technician.

***Please note, we are looking for candidates who are based out of or are willing to relocate to the following areas: Houston, TX, New Orleans or Baton Rouge, LA, Southern California or Middletown, OH.***

This position performs and/or supervises the inspection, repair,  troubleshooting, modification, installation and commissioning of mechanical equipment such as centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, cryogenic pumps, gear drives, vessels, heat exchangers,  reciprocating and centrifugal expanders, all involving a variety of fluids and specific requirements in Global Operations operated facilities, joint ventures, subsidiaries, and third party facilities.

The position requires good organizational skills and the ability to work alone, if necessary, and also the ability to lead a crew. The facilities at which work is performed are located throughout the United States and internationally. International travel outside of North America is expected to be low, but it is possible.

Qualifications:
- Minimum of five (5) years experience related to maintenance, start-Up or commissioning of machinery and rotating equpment
- Practical knowledge of machinery overhauls and refurbishment is highly desirable
- Basic computer skills is a prerequisite
- Be a team player in a team environment, a self-starter and self-motivator.
- Must have the ability to work extended hours and willing to travel with short notice. 
- Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Must be able to work in an industrial environment, which includes lifting, climbing, etc.
- Must be able to respond to requirements on a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week basis.

The position requires approximately 75% travel away from home.
 
Additionally, the incumbent must be able to do the following:

- Respond to major mechanical breakdowns, carry out prompt inspection, analyze faults, repair and re-commission affected plant and equipment so as to assure the minimum loss of production.

- Develop worn component refurbishment procedures and follow through on repairs and spare parts replacements based on Machinery engineering recommendations and must be able to provide technical decision-making support for major machinery overhauls.

- Demonstrate supervisory skills and safe work skills.

- Develop work scopes for equipment repair and overhaul, be able to prepare and provide technical reports, as well as  enter information into SAP to provide accurate documentation on equipment and information to enable others in the organization to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
 
This is a ladder position and advancement is possible based on experience and demonstrated competency.

The incumbent will either operate out of his/her residence or from one of the major Air Products facilities at a location to be determined based on the incumbent residence location or willingness to relocate.
