Product Development Chemist

SUMMARY Plans and directs activities of chemical laboratory by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Plans, coordinates, and directs programs for research, product development, and improvement of manufacturing processes.Coordinates research and analysis activities according to applicable government regulations, manufacturing processes, or other considerations, and approves modification of formulas, standards, specifications, and processes.Reviews research, testing, quality control, and other operational reports to ensure that quality standards, efficiency, and schedules are met.Interprets results of laboratory activities to laboratory personnel, management, and professional and technical societies.Advises management, technical personnel, and representatives of other organizations of activities.Prepares reports and technical papers.Prepares and administers laboratory budgets.Participate with government representatives during inspections.Bring new technology to firm through trade publications, vendor contacts, trade shows and seminars.Provide technical assistance to personnel, distributors, end users, government officials and medical personnel.Participate in Staff meetings, training seminars, team meetings and development meetings.Conduct tour groups through the laboratory.Develop new test methods when necessary.Maintain clean and safe work environment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for all laboratory personnel and regulatory affairs.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Teach wet chemistry testing including but not limited to titrations, pH determinations, foam testing, solids determinations and refractometer readings.Teach the use of specialized equipment necessary to perform testing including but not limited to Viscometer, FTIR, HPLC, Flash Point tester and centrifuge Be able to train others specialized techniques in order to perform testing including but not limited to floor finish application, glass cleaner evaluation, and sample preparation.Be able to take samples from manufacturing tanks, raw material containers and storage tanks.Must keep good records.Must communicate well orally and in writing.Must be computer literate.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE minimum 4 year science degreeMust be able to obtain sample from manufacturing tanks, raw material containers, and bulk storage tanks.Must be able to work overtime when requested.Must be able to perform all cleaning tasks associated with I&I cleaning such as mopping, wiping, pressure washing and scrubbing.Must be able to direct activities of others.Must be able to function as part of a team and as team leader.Must be able to work in warm conditions during summer months.Must be able to work in community area.Must be able to work non-traditional hours.Must be able to communicate effectively with personnel with special attention to customer service, sales and upper management.Must be able to perform field work when necessary to accomplish task.
