Process Engineer (Chemical)

The Process Engineer position is responsible for improving safety, operability, reliability, and efficiency of manufacturing areas through PHAs, process improvements, Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma, and capital projects.

Key Responsibilities: 

· Assist in the planning of production to efficiently utilize material, labor and equipment while meeting departmental goals

· Generate, promote and analyze potential changes in the process or operation, which will generate cost savings, capacity increases and energy conservation

· Determine operating characteristic and capabilities of existing equipment; assist on plant tests and evaluation of results

· Participate in plant problem solving/troubleshooting activities 

· Assist in the day-to-day operational decisions so that safety, cost and production goals are met 

· Act as technical advisor to the Area Supervisor to correct operational problems

· Coordinate startup and initial operations of capital projects

· Review cost sheets and production and efficiency reports to identify and correct causes for variances

· Ensure all reports and KPIs are being collected regularly in the production areas and all targets are met

· Drive improvements to positively impact the achievement of goals relate to safety, quality, cost, usage and volume

· Interface with Lab or Process Technology groups on qualify problems

· Lead Kaizen Events, Six Sigma Projects and other continuous improvement efforts

· Measure baseline capability of equipment and optimize processes using Lean tools and good engineering practices

· Understand and help implement Site Environmental Policy and Objectives in manufacturing areas

· Perform necessary engineering calculations, statistical analysis and process modeling for manufacturing area 

Qualifications include:

· BS, Chemical Engineering

· Minimum 5-10 years experience in chemical manufacturing or similar field

· Experience with natural gas fired steam boilers a plus

· Six Sigma – Black Belt and/or Lean Manufacturing experience a plus

· Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, SAP, Chem-CAD or similar
