Principal PCT Engineer/ I&E Engineer
BAYER TECHNOLOGY SERVICES (BTS), a subsidiary of BAYER CORPORATE AND BUSINESS SERVICES (BCBS) is seeking a Principal Engineer in Instrumentation and Controls (I&C)/Process Controls Technology (PCT) at their Baytown, TX facility.The I & C/PCT Principal Engineer will have the following responsibilities:• Provide lead I &C/PCT engineering and management services for the preparation and execution of the instrumentation, electrical and controls portions of capital projects for chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities. Lead project PCT teams consisting of engineering and design personnel. • Follow BTS I&C/PCT and/or customer specific practices and procedures for preparation of estimates, scopes, specifications, design, and other deliverables• Develop hardware, software, and functional specifications for process control systems and associated components• Participate in the development of process control and information management strategies• Evaluate all PCT aspects of engineering to ensure all project objectives including safety, technical correctness, constructability, schedule, maintainability, and operability are met • Interface with other disciplines/departments, customers and vendors/suppliers to ensure successful execution of projects • Provide field support, and participate in check out, commissioning and start up • Modify existing or create new I&C/PCT standards and practices to stay current with technology and implement improved methodsBasic Requirements:Education:Bachelors or Masters (Preferred) Degree in EngineeringEducation Disciplines: Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with strong interest in process control systemsJob-Related Experience:8+ years of experience in chemical or pharmaceutical facility engineering and design with Bachelor’s Degree, or 2-6+ years with Master’s Degree Specific Skills/Responsibilities: Excellent knowledge of process control strategies and systems Excellent knowledge of field instrumentation and low/medium voltage electrical systems used in industrial processes.Strong project management skills including project planning, scheduling, cost control, and contract developmentStrong estimating and cost control skillsSchedule complianceScope control, change managementKnowledge of relevant national and international standards in the area of process control and instrumentation Demonstrated experience (minimum of 3 years) in providing field support and participating in check out, commissioning, and start upSystematic approach to problem definition and solution development Ability to work as a member of cross-functional teams and to lead multiple projects simultaneously Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to deal with people at different levels of management, engineering and design, and with internal customers (e.g. engineering, maintenance, operations) and suppliers of PCT material and services Excellent verbal and written skills in order to communicate with and obtain cooperation from team members involved with engineering, design, check out, commissioning and start-up. Demonstrated ability to write comprehensive technical and scope documents required for project execution. Willingness and ability to travel 20-40% of time when job assignment dictatesWillingness and ability to work additional hours when job assignment dictatesWilling to pursue advanced education, certifications and training when job assignment dictates. Preferred:Masters Degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 2 years of experience performing control systems engineering and design in a chemical/pharmaceutical facility of varying scope and complexity. Demonstrated computer hardware, software, database and networking skills with industrial distributed control systems (DCS) and programmable logic controllers (PLC).Demonstrated knowledge of safety systems and industrial control networksDemonstrated responsibility in multidiscipline projects up to $25 - $50 mm where PCT costs are approximately 25% of total.
