General Description

The Plant Engineer is a corporate staff position that provides engineering support to all operating facilities.  The incumbent will serve as project manager or part of a project team for the construction of new plants or expansion of existing operations.  Additionally, he will provide expertise in the evaluation of potential projects, including the evaluation of new equipment, new technology, and process innovations.  This position is differentiated from more junior engineering positions by the incumbent’s depth and variety of knowledge gained through years of experience.  He is recognized as a technical expert for this function within the department and serves as a resource for this expertise throughout the company.

 

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·  Requires a BS in Engineering, with a graduate technical degree or MBA preferred.

·  Requires a minimum 10 years of progressively responsible engineering experience, with demonstrated ability to successfully lead a project team.  Must be able to work on numerous projects simultaneously.  Experience preferred in the lime, cement or minerals industry.  Experience in material handling and crushing system design is a plus

·  Must be knowledgeable in all phases of plant design, process evaluation, equipment application, and construction management. Requires proficiency in specifying and implementing the equipment necessary for processing stone and lime, including, but not limited to crushing systems, material handling equipment, lime kiln or similar pyroprocessing equipment, product handling, storage, load out and shipping facilities.

·  Should be knowledgeable in computer applications relating to engineering and manufacturing processes. 

·  Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint

·  Proficient with Microsoft Project for project management and scheduling

·  Proficient with AutoCAD software

·  Proficient with material handling / processing software

·  Must possess excellent human relations skills in dealing with employees, vendors, contractors, customers, and partners.

 Duties and Responsibilities

·  Manage capital projects to insure they are completed on time and within budget.

·  Prepare scope documents for projects assigned in accordance with guidelines developed by the operating team.

·  Assist operating teams in developing the scope for assigned projects.

·  Develop a cost estimate or direct the work of an engineering firm employed to develop the estimate.

 

 

·  Develop the material balances, preliminary layouts, and equipment lists to be used as a basis for a cost estimate.

·  Review capital projects for the proper application of equipment and process technology.

·  Assist the operating personnel in evaluating new equipment and technology.

·  Oversee the work of engineering firms or general contractors in the execution of capital projects.

·  Assist the environmental manager in preparing permit applications.

·  Manage capital projects to insure timely construction of major plant expansion projects and “grass rootâ€� plants with budgets from $500,000 to $50,000,000.
