This position is responsible for providing Mechanical Engineering Support for small to large Capital and Expense Projects. This includes conceptual planning, scope development, estimating, detailed design, coordination with other disciplines, equipment procurement, monitoring outside engineering contractors, and construction/start-up support. The position includes all areas of Mechanical Engineering, with emphasis on providing expertise and knowledge of rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, gear drives, motors, agitators, blowers, mechanical seals, etc.). Capital Project SupportSupport capital projects through all phases - basic engineering (front-end-loading), design engineering, procurement, construction, and start-up/commissioning. Insure quality design, cost compliance, and schedule activities are met as related to Mechanical Engineering. Effective coordination of Mechanical documents and design issues with project managers and other engineering disciplines. Lead mechanical efforts on projects. Provide technical direction for 1-10 engineers/technicians (in-house and/or third party engineering firm) during the engineering phase of the projects.,Identify, evaluate, and promote cost-savings opportunities regarding equipment design and construction opportunities. Develop and Maintain Mechanical documents – equipment lists, equipment technical data sheets Provide US Code expertise to BASF Group Engineering (GT - Germany) on technology transfer projects. Specify and support procurement of mechanical equipment. Resolve requests-for-information (RFI) from fabrication shops and equipment manufacturers.Strategic Engineering Responsibilities:Participate and contribute on teams to represent the Mechanical discipline. This includes interaction with other Sites, review, validate, and provide feedback on new and revised BASF Technical Standards, Corporate policies and procedures. Centers of Expertise (CoE’s) and peer working teams are examples. Provide Machinery Engineering support to engineers, technicians, and maintenance staff in Freeport and other BASF sites, involving design, operation, repair, troubleshooting, and re-rates of rotating equipment. Provide expertise, knowledge and experience in machinery codes and standards, involving equipment such as pumps, compressors, gear drives, motors, agitators, blowers, mechanical seals, etc. Lead and/or participate on Root Cause Failure Analysis Teams for equipment failures. Provide assistance to procurement with technical reviews of mechanical equipment, with emphasis on pumps, compressors, agitators, motors, and mechanical seals. Required:Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Minimum of 5 or more years of experience with mechanical equipment design, fabrication, inspection, and installation, with emphasis on machinery. Able to handle and manage multiple priorities. Self-starter, good communication skills, organization, coordination, and leadership skills. Strong computer skills. Familiar with applicable industry Codes as the relate to rotating and stationary equipment (ASME, ANSI, API, and other applicable codes)Desired:3+ years of experience in large capital projects. SAP or other CMMS experience Experience in chemical/petrochemical industry. Professional Engineering License
